LIFE and Keeping it Real.

You guys, this is what I look like right now:

molly straight loungingWell, not right now, because you’re reading this after this picture was taken and this post was written.

But this is how I look as of Wednesday night.

I’m gonna keep it short and keep it real with you for a second.

I’m a happy person. I’m a positive person. I see things glass-half-full. But sometimes life happens and it’s okay to not put a cute outfit on and it’s okay to eat half a Digiorno pizza and drink about six Diet Cokes.

Tomorrow (well, you’re reading this on Thursday, so, well, today) I’m taking a HUGE exam for work. It’s called the CTS exam – Certified Technology Specialist – basically a certification for the AV industry. That was nerdy-tech speak you just witnessed. So, I’m studying. Have been and will be all night. I feel like I’m in college again, or something.

Anywho. I’m stressed about the test, but that’s okay. I’m going to study as much as I can, dress for success, and walk in that testing center with my head held high and all the confidence in the world. If I pass it, awesome. If I don’t, it’s not the end of the world.

And, on a separate, somewhat unrelated note: I just want to remind you to hold on to the people in your life whom you love and who helped to make you the person you are today.

A dear friend of my family passed away yesterday after a short, but brutal fight with cancer. Losing a family member or friend is hard. I know first hand.

The only comfort is knowing he’s at peace and he’s with the Lord.

I just ask that you just pray for his family – he leaves behind a wonderful wife and a wonderful grown son and daughter. And I ask that you cherish your loved ones, hang on to every moment, and tell them you love them every chance you get.

Life’s too short to not say I Love You every day.

Sorry for being the lame blogger, ‘debbie downer’, ‘malaise molly’ today. Posting heavy stuff isn’t typically my beat, but sometimes LIFE gets real and it’s cool to just be real every once in a while.

Don’t worry, I’ll be back to my regularly scheduled awkwardness and whatnot tomorrow.

all for now.

YELLOW! It’s a trend… of the month. #Fashion

You guys, I am gonna be real with you for a second. I have a lot of fun with the creativity associated with putting together an “outfit” or whatever you wanna call it. But I do NOT love taking pictures of myself and I do not love when I awkwardly think my neighbors think I’m nuts for taking these photos in our driveway.

No matter how many ways from Sunday I try to play it off, it just looks weird.

So, can we all just own it?

I now have started waving to my neighbors as I take my photos. At least that way they think I’m a friendly and neighborly nutcase.

Moving on to the TREND OF THE MONTH CHALLENGE. I love Marion over at Marionberry Style. She’s pretty darn awesome. She’s hilarious, she is a teacher, and she’s got way better style than me. Also, her teaching stories are so funny.

Well, each month Marion hosts a “Trend of the Month Challenge” – where you get a, well, trend, for that month, to create an outfit or look with, and then you link up on her blog.

Anyway, this month’s trend is YELLOW. You know, simple as that. The color YELLOW.

SO, I put together a little diddy yesterday with some YELLOW in it.

Ya heard?

the look you see before you below is my, “Oh what’s that over there?” pose. again, avoiding the looks from neighbors. BAHAHA.

standard thumbs up for yellow trends.

The Outfit Deets:

SO, are you a fan of yellow? What are you doing on this fine Wednesday?

In addition to linking up with Marion, I’m also linking up with Rolled Up Pretty, The Pleated Poppy, Two Thirty-Five Designs, and A Little Bit of Lacquer today!

oxox, all for now!

FASHION-SPIRATION: Purple and Orange

INSPIRATION: Christine from Hello Fashion (left) - ME! (right)

You guys, contrary to what you may think from the photo above, I am not a Clemson fan. I don’t hate Clemson, I just wouldn’t call myself a “fan.”

NOW, on to the topic at hand: I definitely am not one to be a “fashion copycat” – not that I think being a “fashion copycat” is bad, at all, but I like to think that I have my own style. I like to look at trends, styles, fashions and see how I can make them my own – you know, put my own twist on things. In the hopes that I, in turn, can inspire someone else to take that same style I wore and make it their own.

‘naw mean?

BUT, one thing I have loved doing is looking at what some of my favorite fashion bloggers or other style inspirations are doing – colors they’re putting together, fabrics, patterns, cuts, etc.

Well, Christine Andrew over at Hello Fashion is definitely one of those women. I LOVE her style. It’s so simple, yet feminine, classic, and FUN. And I LOVE the way she uses color in her looks.

I saw this outfit she put together earlier this month, immediately pinned it, and then waited for the day when I could figure out a way to make it my own.

So, here’s my recreation of Christine’s look (pictured above). What do you think?

I loved the purple and orange in the look, so I pretty much kept that the same. I didn’t have an orange necklace, but I loved that my bag had purple, orange, and TEAL in it, so I pulled the teal out of the bag and popped on my teal bubble necklace.

I also kept the nude / blush flats the same as in Christine’s photo – when you’re wearing that many colors, you wanna keep your footwear neutral as the attention should NOT be on your shoes.

I also LOVE my Jean Jacket. If you’ve followed my blog for awhile, you’re aware of this fact. I’ve had this jean jacket for close to 10 years and I STILL wear it all the time. I love how it can tone down an outfit. Now, I didn’t wear it much that day because it is getting HOT in North Carolina, but I wanted you to at least see how much I love the way it can tone down the outfit.

Outfit Deets:

So yeah, what do you think? How would you wear this? How would YOU make it your own? Where do you look for inspiration?

xoxo, all for now.

Baseball Game Fashion? AND My Adorable Nephew

You guys, Happy Memorial Day.

So, husband’s work had an event at a Durham Bulls game a couple weeks ago and well, this is what I wore. I don’t own any Bulls paraphernalia, and honestly, it was more of a work event anyway, so I wanted to look put together and presentable (especially since I knew I’d be meeting some of his coworkers that I’d never met) while also looking relaxed.

So, this little diddy is what I decided on.

After the game, we decided on taking an artsy parking deck shot. This was that photo – hahaha:

Outfit Deets:

  • Coral Paisley Halter Top: LOFT (circa 2005… old, I know, but I still love this top!)
  • Coral Blazer: BELK (seen here)
  • Skinny Jeans: Seven for All Mankind (purchased on eBay for $12!)
  • Blush Flats: Fab’rik Chapel Hill (on sale for $10! – Spring 2012)
  • Pearl Bracelet: JCrew ($5 at the warehouse sale last fall! – last seen worn here)

SO, What do you wear to “work – casual” events? Do you have a go-to outfit?

+++

On a side, personal note, husband and I went to hang with my sister, brother-in-law, and my nephew yesterday. And that reminded me of 1) how cute my nephew is, 2) how much I love my family, and 3) that I never shared some of these photos from a couple weeks ago. A couple weeks ago I met my sister for lunch at Chick-Fil-A and I had a little impromptu photoshoot of my nephew.

Here are a few of my favorite images:

GAH i love his eyes

first experience with an ice cream cone

hahahaha weird aunt molly

And just a reminder to have a Happy Memorial Day, everyone. Remember why you’re off work today – honor those who have served. I know I do, including my mama.

xoxo, all for now.
