Making a Statement

this is my attempt at a model face. don’t judge.

Outfit Deets:

You guys, I figured out how to do a sock bun. It is NOT as easy as they make it look. Seriously. It was hard. But I got it now. I’m not 100% sold on how it looks on me. I do love the comfort of it and the fact that I don’t have to think about my hair the rest of the day, but I’m not sure on how I look with a sock bun. Have you tried a sock bun yet?

Moving on to the outfit. This outfit cost me a total of approximately $46, and most of it is stuff I’ve had in my closet forever. Except for the necklace. Which I love. Obviously. Because I wear it all the time.

SO, when Marion at Marionberry Style announced that her Trend of the Month challenge for this month was ‘statement necklaces,’ I did a fist pump. For real.

I feel like with the combination of the sock bun and the bubble necklace I am the ultimate in stereotypical blogger. Or I am just really trendy.

I prefer trendy.

Right? Right.

Linked up today with mah girls Marionberry Style, The Pleated Poppy, Sailor Spy, Transatlantic Blonde, Rae Gun Ramblings, Yours Truly, and Rolled Up Pretty. Phew! That’s a lot of linky awesome. Check them out and show them some love!!

Ok so the sock bun was totally my best friend all summer. I literally kept mine for over 2 months-it was so comfy and convenient! And this bubble necklace….those colors are killing me. I’m really trying to save money here and you’re not helping with the $15 gorgeousness!

Sock bun- way more complicated than I thought, especially if you have layers.

BTW, you are glowing. Just thought I’d let you know you look beautiful. Joy of Jesus, perhaps?

thanks clare! the crazy thing is that the bubble necklace is white with clear beads on the bottom… so that way the necklace takes on the color of whatever you’re wearing it with. i LOVE IT! it’s like a fashion illusion <3

I have to say, out of all the bubble necklaces I’ve seen, your color combo is definitely my favorite. As for the sock bun–well, it looks awesome on you! I have two left hands when it comes to stuff like that and I CANNOT seem to master it. It kind of reminds me of the topsy tail from the 90′s–I was definitely really terrible at that as well!

I love the sock bun – it’s seriously a go-to for crappy hair days (and all the girls in my office do it too!). Love the dark colors with the white bubble necklace too – great look for transitioning into fall! :)

High five for the sock bun!!! I still can’t do one. I don’t think my hair is thick enough. And these pictures are so good…love the background! And the model face is too cute….every time I take a pic not smiling I look like I am mad at the world!!

I LOVE this necklace, love how it’s 2 colors. You look fabulous. I’ve only been able to do the sock bun once, I was so excited thinking I got it. And then I tried it again later and failed. Ha. Yours looks great! :)

Nope. still can’t do the sock bun. You’re looks fab though. Also, I keep trying to not buy a second bubble necklace ( I have one in yellow..but..the black is so purdy) but you keep convincing me I need one. The outfit is really cute, definitely inspirational for the upcoming euro trip

You are TOTALLY right about the sock bun. I found it quite difficult, especially since my hair is layered. I learned you basically just have to keep rolling your hair even if it doesn’t seem like it’s going into the sock and it’ll eventually just work somehow hahaha. I love the bright necklace with the dark colors. You make trends (denim jacket here) look so easy!

Oh the sock bun…I did it a lot last spring, but now I feel like my hair is too long for it to stay neatly tucked, ya know? But you’re right it is pretty simple and surprisingly comfy!
I think this look is perfect for fall…and I am thrilled it’s only going to be in the 70s here today!!!

I love your outfit!! For $46, you look trendy and super cute. I have not yet tried to sock bun. Recently I cut my hair, so I’m pretty sure it’s not long enough anymore!

I love that necklace and might have to copy you by purchasing one! Hope you don’t mind :)

Okay, I really like cute, casual outfits like this! The combo of the jacket the layered shirt, those pretty, chic flats and the pants is adorable and so easy going. But then you throw in the spiffy extras, like that pretttttty necklace, and your clothes always have special little details on them, like the side splits in the shirt. It really adds up to showing off your personal style, which I love. :)
Those sock buns are not easy to do! I tried one and just ended up with my hair in one big tangle, although that might speak more to my inabiltiy to do my hair rather than the difficulty of the sock bun. :P I think it looks cute on you, I like how you added the little headband to it!
