If I look tired in these photos, it’s because I am. And I’m okay with that. We keep it real around here, right everyone?

Now, let’s talk EMOTIONS. Are you an emotional person?

I don’t really consider myself to be an “emotional” person. I mean, I certainly cry at stuff. But I mean in general, my emotions are pretty even keel. I do get really excited about stuff, but I’m not easily angered or frustrated or whathaveyou.

Even in this pregnancy (so far) I’ve only been a “crier” a few times early on, but in general, my emotions have stayed pretty much the same.

I don’t know what it is and I’m not sure I was ALWAYS this way, but over the years I’ve just gotten pretty good at not letting my emotions get the best of me. I don’t let things RUIN my day. My parents always taught me that you can start your day over any time… and so I’ve pretty much lived by that mantra.

Have you ever been around that person who is just NEGATIVE all. the. time? I mean, you know who I’m talking about. THAT guy / girl who every third word that comes out of his / her mouth is “woe is me this” or “woe is me that” or “how awful my life is” or “my life is over.”

Those people exhaust me. I try to be sympathetic to a point, but after a while it’s like, “Chin up, pup!

I’ve just never been one of those people. I’m more of the “overly-optimistic-sometimes-to-a-fault” type of person. And I like it that way.

Sure, there are days when I’m just feeling down on my luck or whatever, but I’m usually able to bounce back pretty quickly.

I don’t even know what prompted this whole train of thought, really. Or really what my point in sharing it with you is.

But I guess, as I ramble along, I realized maybe it’s just an opportunity for you (and me!) to take a step back today and evaluate – you know, evaluate our attitude and our EMOTIONS. What are we WASTING emotional energy on? Or are we using our emotional energy for good?

Are we building others around us UP with our emotional energy or are we the Negative Nancy no one wants to be around?

For me, and this is just for me, but I don’t think Jesus would want me wasting my emotional energy on negativity, anger, jealousy, or frustration. I know that Jesus loves me (and you!) and only wants me to put my energy into things that uplifting, joyful, and selfless.

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” -Romans 8:28

Anyway. Random, I know. But just some food for thought today. Or something. What do you think?

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11

My emotions are on a pretty even plane – until I get mad and well, I’m a hot-blooded Greek. But it takes me a long time to get mad at something – it’s got to be pretty bad or repetitive at that point! Anyway, I learned early on the power of positivity, and it really works! I have slowly separated myself from negative Nancys – I’m like you, it’s exhausting! I had to stop watching certain reality TV shoes because I even get exhausted by their constant fighting!

Girl, I envy your ability to stay positive. I’m a negative person by nature. It takes a conscious effort for me to stay positive, I have to work at it. That is a great quality to have. You look so cute preggers! (that word is obnoxious but I like it).

I find that I’m typically a happy person, but I really need to keep y emotions in check when I’m stressed. I tend to snap easily when I hit a certain point and that’s not fun for anyone involved.

I am more of an emotional person but have definitely gotten better as I’ve gotten older. I try to not let emotions run my day but do struggle with it some! But I really haven’t cried many times or definitely not any extra since being pregnant which I’m glad! you look beautiful! from straight one you don’t look one bit pregnant! loved the side pic of your belly!!

I love this post. Love you, and you look beautiful – even if you feel tired. :)

I’m an emotional person in that I cry easily. I don’t let my emotions get the best of me, but I am a crier through and through!

    You’re looking mighty gorgeous, Molly!
I think I tend to be a bit of an emotional person. I’ve never been super quick to anger, but I’ve always struggled a little with shaking off a bad feeling/day. I’d like to think I’m getting better at it as I get older though. No need to let one bad moment/hour ruin an entire day.

You look beautiful Molly, love the mini bump! I always try to surround myself with positive people, who only lift me up. Being around downers and people who only feel sorry for themselves all the time is definitely exhausting. They are also the ones who can never be happy for other people’s successes because they only think of their own downfalls. Exhausting!

I am an extremely emotional person, but not in the angry way though. One of the reasons I love being around you is because you are so positive and fun to be around. By the way, you are the most adorable little momma ever!

I’m definitely a realist- I say things like they are, don’t sugar-coat, etc. I’m not overly-positive, but I’m not a Debbie downer either. I think I’m somewhere in between! In terms of emotions, I cry pretty easily at stupid movies or even when the radio station gives money to a struggling family. Yes, I’m a sap :P

It is interesting how our emotions can change. We either loose control of them as we change or we get better at controlling them. I would like to say that I have complete control over my emotions, but I do not. It is strange, though. It really depends on the situation and I’m much better at controlling my emotions when I’m around people than when I’m by myself. When I’m by myself, they really do tend to get the best of me. I’m only a crier over movies or when I get really, really angry. I only get really angry where work is concerned and I work from home so I don’t deal with people and therefore it does tend get the best of me. It is something that I’m working on, but it is food for thought. I’m done rambling now :)

Great post today! I am pretty emotional (mostly in the frustrated & angry department) but pregnancy kind of mellowed me out. The second trimester has been more of a roller coaster tho. Things that normally would never make me cry does now. And I stress easier, since I’m trying to do so many things AND plan for a baby. I’m a big planner. But even as a kid I remember always making the decision to change my mood. My dad, a pastor, constantly hammered into us that “we don’t walk by feelings, but by the Spirit,” and I guess I’ve always tried to keep that little gem hidden in my heart. If I have a breakdown it’s usually always in private, but I’d say that more related to my pride than anything. This is a topic we could definitely expand on!

As a counselor and an abuse survivor – there are times when past trauma can overwhelm me to the point where depressed and negative thoughts and feelings can really run my life. The counselor in me knows that we are governed by our thoughts – and indeed positive thought can lead to positive outcome and good feelings. There is a great Shakespeare quote (forgive me when I mis-quote it :-) “There is nothing either good or bad, but that our thinking makes it so”… That little gem, some hardy exercise, a loving family, and the occasional shot of rum gets me through. I’m still struggling with the faith piece, that one does not come easy for me…. Oh yeah, and trying to surround myself with good intentioned people is also a winning strategy :-)

Such a fun scarf! I love the emerald color too. And I think I would call myself a “glass half empty” person. If I let myself I can be a pretty negative/depressed person! I don’t like being like that and I have to make a conscious effort to be positive. I wish it was easier!

Yeah, so…I can be emotional, but I don’t like to air out my problems to the entire world. That’s just not my thing. I find myself avoiding Debbie Downers and Mullygrub Marys because, well, I’m not trying to deal with all of that (every day, all the time, etc.). I know we all have our moments, but the Bible verse you listed is a great reminder for us to turn our eyes towards Him and let His spirit work through us and ultimately uplift us and allow us to uplift and encourage others.
