Home Decor Inspiration - Century Furniture - High Point Furniture Market 2013 - North Carolina So, my father-in-law works for Century Furniture and for the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of getting to go spend the day in High Point, NC for Furniture Market. Now, if you don’t know what Furniture Market is, basically Market is when literally THOUSANDS of people descend upon the small town of High Point, NC to check out what all the furniture and home design companies are releasing for that season. It’s almost like Fashion Week, but for home decor and design.

You can check out my recap post from last year here.

Even though I only got to check out the Century Furniture, Highland House, and Capel showrooms, there is still PLENTY of fabulousness to go around.

Sure, 99% of this I could never actually own, but it’s SO fun to get design inspiration and put together a dream home in your mind. Right?

Ahhhh get ready for some home de-gorgeouness, as I like to call it. Or would it be decor-geousness? Either way, you get my point. Nursery Color Inspiration (I need your help!) + 19 Weeks!

As you may very well know, John and I are not finding out the sex of our baby. AH! I know, right? Trust me, I am dying to know, but I know that the surprise in the end will be TOTALLY worth it.

Well, we’re in the process of starting to think about our NURSERY and, well, I really want to prove that gender neutral nursery’s don’t have to be boring! They don’t have to be “conventional” – and so John and I decided on the theme for our nursery and we are so excited.

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know how much Kenya means to us. I’ve been back twice and my husband came with me this year and a huge chunk of my heart is in that community of Kiria. Well, I’ve taken A LOT of photos on my trips back to Kenya, and we thought what better than to do a KENYAN-THEMED nursery?

We’re going to blow up photos I’ve taken and put them on canvases or large prints and hang them around the nursery. And what better way to tell our child about Kenya and the people and our experiences AND the animals than to surround him or her with photos and memorabilia?

Well, although I have photos picked out, we still have not settled on an overall color palette for the room. And so, I’ve gathered a few of my favorite photos that I’ve taken in Kenya and made color palettes out of them for inspiration.

So, I want to know: which one is your favorite?

[Option TWO: The Watering Hole] Kenya & Safari Inspired Nursery Color Palette

[Option THREE: Zebras] Kenya & Safari Inspired Nursery Color Palette

[Option FOUR: Tiny Santa]
Side note: this is probably my favorite photo I’ve ever taken. I took it through the window of our bus on the way to the village one day and I just love the story it tells. Kenya & Safari Inspired Nursery Color Palette

So seriously, which one is YOUR favorite? What do you think would look best in the nursery?

Now for my 19 week update!

still being molly - maternity style: purple blouse, maternity jeans, red TOMS, red bow bag How far along: 19 weeks!
How big is baby: An heirloom tomato or small cantaloupe
Weight gain: At the doctor’s last week it looks like I’m right on track at about 10 pounds.
Sleeping: Sleep? BAH!
Food cravings: This kid loves milk, ice cream, cheese – anything dairy. But my latest craving this week has been blueberry waffles with powdered sugar on top! NOM NOM NOM!
Food aversions: Still no desire to eat Tokyo Express. Sad times.
Symptoms: Pretty much all the same.
Doctor’s appointment: We go for our anatomy scan next Thursday! I had my 18 week checkup last week and the baby’s heartbeat was steady at 140.
Wedding Rings: Still on!
Movement: On and off. Nothing consistent yet, but when I ate [B]Ski’s for lunch this week the baby was moving like CRAZY afterwards. It’s really all hit or miss.
Best moment of the week: My mother-in-law is coming to visit tonight so I’m really looking forward to spending time with her!
What I’m looking forward to: Our anatomy scan next week! YAY!
What I did / Got for baby: My new mom car!
What I learned this week: The baby can yawn, smile, and frown in the womb right now. SO CUTE.
Prayer requests: Still praying for sleep and better rest. I’m just dragging all the time. I also would love continued prayer for the health of the baby – I’m still in that stage where I’m just so careful about everything and I just want this baby to be strong and healthy.

[TUTORIAL] DIY Book / Paper Christmas Wreath… thing

Changing things up on this lovely November Friday. I did this little project last weekend and I was actually surprised and how much I loved the way it turned out, so I thought I’d share it with y’all!

So, last weekend when I was at my in-laws after Thanksgiving, we did some shopping at a few “resource” type stores. Well, I came across this adorable recipe and wine cork paper wreath:

I LOVED it. But it was $50. WHAT?! $50? I thought, I could make this. Right? Right.

So, here’s a little tutorial for you. Oh, and this project? Cost me $0.75 cents. Yeah, really. (Now, not including the items I already owned).

Supplies Needed:

  • Glue gun
  • Book of choice
  • Twine / rope / cording
  • Piece of card board
  • Doilies or really anything you want to put in the center
  • Scissors
  • Duct Tape
  • Diet Coke*
  • *optional

The only thing I purchased was the book, which I got for $0.75 cents at a used book store. Now, I chose this book because it has colorful, thick pages… AND I have this exact same book and I read it growing up. But I couldn’t bear to tear the pages out of a book I’ve had since childhood.

So, I would say, choose a book that you feel okay tearing the pages out of. Hit up a used book store. Don’t tear up that childhood memory.

Plus, I not only love the colorful pages (which makes a colorful wreath), but I love that it’s a Bible story that I could even use throughout the year. You know, because the Message never changes. Right? Right. :)

1. Anyway, once I removed some of the pages, I started rolling the pages into a cone shape and then hot gluing the bottom of the cone like so:

2. On the square piece of cardboard, I just started flattening out the glued bottoms of the paper cones and glueing them down in a circular pattern like so:

3. Once I had a good base layer, I just started eye-balling it, filling in the gaps, and adding layers of paper cones to the bottom layer like so:

4. Then, once I got the layers to a level I liked, I needed something to go in the center. So, I took a couple extra doilies I had lying around (which I’d originally bought a long time ago at Michael’s for $1 a piece). So, I made the doilies into a flower and glued it to the center like so:

5. Now, to hang it… really any way will work, but I cut some twine and used a staple gun to staple it to the cardboard. That didn’t work as well so I just got out some trust duct tape and that did the trick… like so:

And voila! You have a complete wreath! You could hang it on your front door like so:

Tangent: this was going on whilst making my wreath. I die of cuteness overload:

In the end, I actually opted to hang the wreath on the wall in our living room. I have a live wreath for our front door, and this one ended up being the perfect touch for our wall!

So, have you done any similar projects lately? What would you love to make a wreath out of?

Happy Friday!

A room + closet tour!! AND a very special birthday message

You guys, Happy Thursday. I’m not going to ramble like I usually do in the text, because most of today’s post is a VIDEO. Woot! Remember the last time I did a video? Ahhh thems were good times.

I decided to take y’all on a mini room/closet tour. Most of it is awkward banter, but my dogs do make a cameo and I show you the redneck way we keep cool in our home.

Watch the video. You won’t regret it. I think. Can’t see the video? Click here to be taken to the video on the YouTubes.

That happened. Do you have a room / closet tour to share? I’d love to see it! Post a link in the comments below! (also, here’s the link to the room makeover I mentioned in the video)

Also, today’s post is a special one because there’s a special birthday today. My adorable, hilarious, amazing, and, well, only nephew is TWO YEARS OLD TODAY. Holy moly he is two. I can’t wait to see him tonight and give him the COOLEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVAR.

John and I are going to be the coolest Aunt and Uncle ever. Okay, maybe not EVER… but we’re gonna be pretty cool. Well, we are ALREADY cool, but you know. At the party. Kyle. Our nephew. Gonna love our gift. Yep.

Anyway, I just thought, in honor of my adorable nephew’s 2nd birthday, I’d share some pictures of him over the last two years:
