Friday Fives + 22 Weeks!

high-five-for-friday-4-5_0535 1. I had SO much fun picking out paint chips and floor samples at Home Depot last weekend. It’s making this whole nursery planning thing a little more real!
2. The Easter Bunny came to the Stillman Household! I got Sour Patch Kids in my Easter basket. <3
3. My sweet nephew came to hang out and we went to an Easter egg hunt… but the highlight of the day for him was the big firetruck that he got to climb all over. I love that little boo.
4. Snuggly puppies make everything better.
5. My sweet husband planted daisies for me in our flower planter. Aren’t they pretty?

What about you? What were some of your moments of the week this week?

And now for my 22 week pregnancy update!
maternity style
How far along: 22 weeks
How big is baby: 11 inches and about a pound!
Weight gain: I honestly haven’t checked this week. Whoops.
Sleeping: Getting a little better!
Food cravings: Cereal, french fries, strawberry ice cream all day err’day.
Food aversions: Nothing really this week. Thankfully!
Symptoms: Still just very tired all the time. I haven’t gotten that “energy” boost I’ve been waiting for, but I’m finally not nauseous ALL the time… I’m only nauseous SOME of the time. :)
Miss Anything?: Sleeping on my stomach. Sleeping on my back. Sleeping in general. I also REALLY miss Diet Coke… like real, fountain Diet Coke. Caffeine Free DC only gets me so far.
Doctor’s appointment: My 22 week checkup is today (Friday)!
Wedding Rings: Still on!
Movement: Lots of flutters, no big kicks yet. Baby moves A LOT after I eat.
Best moment of the week: Spending time with family for Easter!
What I’m looking forward to: Kicks. Real baby kicks!
What I did / Got for baby: We started working on the nursery plans some more. We still haven’t actually “done” anything, but we are at least at the point where we are seriously planning!
What I learned this week: To keep from turning to a little prune in the womb, the baby develops and grows this thin layer of hair and like a white paste or something all over their skin. Isn’t that crazy?
Prayer requests: For the continued health and growth of the baby! I want this baby to be strong and healthy when he / she is born. I mean, what mother wouldn’t? :)

This week went by unusually slow. Probably because I’m over the moon excited to be heading up to VA for a quick trip to see and spend some time with some dear friends tonight and tomorrow morning. It’s going to be a quick, quick trip, but I’m so excited I can’t stand it!

Be sure to follow me on Instagram for lots of photo updates!

Anywho. Here are some moments of the week:

1. This sunset. Yeah, I know already blogged about it, but it has to be put out there again. It was too amazing not to share again.

2. So, our dogs sleep UNDER our bed at night. If we let our dogs sleep in our double bed with us, we would have NO room to sleep, so they go under the bed. However, we often have “Saturday morning reprieves” and let the dogs snuggle with us in bed. This past Saturday, Tater took it upon herself to hop on the bed and wake me up. This thing was in my face:

3. I’ve had a busy week and have been working pretty late every night. Well, husband (on his own accord, mind you) went and got me a cookie dough twister from Andy’s the other night. Yeah, he’s a keeper.

4. Don’t judge me, but these are delicious. I love zebra cakes and Christmas tree cakes and now we’re ready for VALENTINE’S DAY CAKES. Man, these are good.

5. My custom birdnest necklace came in the mail yesterday. Hollie sent it over to me and I am in LOVE. I got to pick the color and number of beads and I am just smitten with it. It’s so dainty and lovely! And only $5.50?! I mean, really? No brainer. But yeah, I love it.

What about you? What are your highlights of the week? Anything exciting?

Something you should NEVER do. And a few high fives.

You guys, I haven’t worn my hair in a sock bun all week.

Is the apocalypse nigh? Wasn’t that a movie in the 80′s or something? Apocalypse Nigh? Oh no, that was Apocalypse Now. Never seen it, but I know it exists. I think.

What am I talking about? I have no idea.

Let’s start over, shall we?

HAPPY FRIDAY, EVERYONE. Or is it “every one”? It’s everyone. I’m sure of it.

I’m really glad that you all could experience me talking to myself as I write this blog post. These are the kinds of things that go through my head on a daily basis. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call “Stream of Consciousness Writing” – or just being straight CRAY after a rather lengthy week.

Anywho.

It’s Friday. And I’m going to quickly (or not so quickly) recap my highlights of the week for you:

1. Had a BLAST on Tuesday at a little shopping event at Madewell that Kate and Lauren hosted! I got to hang with some fellow awesome triFABB bloggers and I even FINALLY got to meet Kristin (even though I sadly didn’t get a pic with her)!

That’s Kate, Lauren, Lindsay (awesome Madewell associate), Carrie, and me:

2. Remember how I said coffee and I aren’t friends, but white chocolate peppermint mochas and me ARE? Yeah, I may have had a few of these this week:

3. YAY 19th Amendment! That’s just me making Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton proud. Also, that’s me creeping out everyone in my tiny polling place. BTW: living in a small town = no lines at the polls, y’all.

4. Spent some time babysitting these two over the weekend. It was as awesome as it looks.

5. It’s official: our dogs contribute nothing to society, but I can’t stop looking at them. They’re so dang cute.

As I was thinking about what else to write for #NaBloPoMo today, I came across a prompt that read, “Tell a friend something that they should never do.”

And it got me thinking.

I mean, you guys – yeah, you – whoever is reading this – I like to think of you as my friend. Maybe you’re just an internet friend or a blog friend or maybe even an IRL friend, but you’re my friend.

So, I thought about what I’d want to tell you to never do. I mean, I’ve talked about making mistakes before and how I’ve learned from my mistakes and how you shouldn’t commit the same mistakes I’ve made.

But I’m not going to talk mistakes today. I’m going to talk about something that can be incredibly hard, but from experience, I’ve learned is so important:

Never give up on those you care about.

Maybe it’s a friend or a family member or a coworker – whatever relationship it is, you know the one I’m talking about. The one that’s frustrating or exhausting or a lot of work – well, I’m here to say, don’t give up on it / them.

I feel like as a society (and maybe I’m just projecting here, or something), but I feel like we give up so easily. I mean, look at the rate at which marriages are ending. I mean, Kim Kardashian – 76 days to Kris Humphries. She gave up. They both gave up. Sure, they’re celebrities – but they’re still human and they were married and they gave up.

When I said my vows to John on February 18th, I said them for life. There is nothing, and I mean nothing, that will make me stop loving him. And there is nothing, and I mean nothing, that will end our marriage. Why? Because we love each other and we love Christ and Christ is bigger than both of us and our love is stronger than anything – I believe it can be tested – and I’m sure it will someday – but we won’t give up – and we’ll come out stronger.

I have a few friends that I have been friends with, quite literally, since I was a baby. And sure, we’ve been through rough times, but they’re my friends and I love them and I will never give up on them. No matter what.

Sure, some friendships will come and go and there will be some people that will walk into and out of your life – and that’s okay. But that’s life – that’s growing up and maturing. There’s a difference between moving on, growing up, and giving up.

‘naw mean?

No but for real. If there’s one thing I want to tell you to never do – it’s to never give up on those you care about. Because somewhere along the way, you’ve stumbled – and someone believed in you, showed you love, gave you grace, and didn’t give up on you – you were able to grow because of that someone. And now look at where you are.

We all need someone to believe in us and refuse to give up on us.

So yeah.

And, while I’m at it, why don’t you thank that person who didn’t give up on you today. Send ‘em a text message. Write ‘em an email. Or heck, call them on the phone. Tell them THANK YOU for not giving up on you… ever. Thank them for showing you the love and grace you needed at a moment when you might not have even known you needed it.

Word? Word.

High Five for Casual Insta-Friday + #NaBloPoMo :)

First, if you’re wondering what in Sam Hill #NaBloPoMo is, well November is National Blog Post Writing Month. More on that at the end of this post…

For now, let’s celebrate the awesome moments of the week:

1. Movie date nights :) Husband and I went to see Argo last weekend. Oh my goodness what an AWESOME (and totally stressful) movie. For real. So good.

2. I hope I’m not beating a dead horse, but I’m going to be real with y’all… I still love my chevron scarf. For real.

3. These dogs. Ridiculous. Love them.

4. Husband brought me “just because” flowers this week. Little did he know, it was exactly what I needed at that moment. Love that guy.

5. I didn’t want to answer the door on Halloween without a costume. So what did I do? I threw on my wedding dress. And my cathedral length veil. And an apron. You know, cause I was making dinner and I didn’t want to get anything on it. My husband thought it was hilarious. I thought it was fun!

And don’t forget, you can always follow me on Instagram to keep up with my antics through the week.

Now, #NaBloPoMo (National Blog Post Writing Month) is just a good way to get refreshed, recharged, restarted, or re-energized in your blog writing. Now, I always have a pretty long list of blog post ideas, stories, etc. written in a little document on my iPhone, but since I’m a writer at heart, I always LOVE looking for new ways to get my creative juices flowing.

There are a bunch of different resources for writing prompts throughout the month of November. I’m going to be teetering back and forth between these and these. So, if you’re looking to get involved in #NaBloPoMo, you can check those out.

With that, today’s question / prompt is:

“If you could live anywhere, where would it be?”

To be honest, this was something I thought about for years and years and years. Pretty much until the time I was 25, I thought I wanted to live in New York City. I was dead set on it. I was going to move to NYC and become the next start of Saturday Night Live.

But as I got older, it wasn’t that I abandoned “the dream,” so to speak, it was just that my priorities shifted, as priorities are want to do as we age.

I’m a country girl at heart. I’m a family girl at heart. I LOVE where I live now and I wouldn’t change ANYTHING about my life right now. I am so blessed. There will always be a special place in my heart for New York City – the sights, the smells, the cultures. But I don’t think it’s really a place I’ll ever actually live. I won’t say never, because I never know where God may lead us, but I can say that it’s highly unlikely New York would ever happen as far as my living situation goes.

Now, as much as I LOVE North Carolina, and as much as I never want to leave, truth is, if God woke me up tomorrow and told me to move to Kenya, I would.

For real.

A huge piece of me is in that village in Kenya, and if we could move there knowing God would provide, we might just consider it.

Now, don’t go fretting thinking we’re moving to Kenya, because we’re certainly not. I’m merely answering the question in front of me.

So, in short, if I could live anywhere, where would it be? Kenya. Without a doubt.

Other than that, as long as I’ve got the Lord and my husband, I’m happy. :)

I’d love to know: If YOU could live anywhere, where would it be? Leave your answer in the comments below or feel free to leave a comment with a link to YOUR #NaBloPoMo blog post!

Happy Friday!
