What to Wear: Second Trimester Maternity Style Inspiration

What to Wear: Second Trimester Maternity Fashion and Style Inspiration

AHH! As of today I am now in my THIRD trimester. WHAT?! Crazy! Seriously, I am due in exactly three months. Yeah, three months from now there will be a BABY in our house.

It still doesn’t even feel real that this is happening. We are so excited, but also so nervous / anxious / worried / [INSERT EMOTION HERE].

Well, while I’m over here having a minor freak out, let’s talk about something that doesn’t freak me out: FASHION.

Now, I thought it would be fun to sort of recap all the outfits I put together and wore during my second trimester. I remember when I first found out I was pregnant, I SCOURED blogs for hours… even days looking for maternity style inspiration. I mean, your body changes SO much when you’re carrying a child, but I didn’t want to sacrifice my sense of style just because my body is changing. So I looked around.

And while there are certainly a few great bloggers out there who have shared their maternity style, the truth is, there just wasn’t THAT much. So, I thought recapping my second trimester style might be fun for a few reasons:

  • For me: It’s a nice way to document my growing bump, but also document my personal style throughout this pregnancy
  • For others: Whether you’re pregnant right now or if you’re ever planning on getting pregnant, I thought this may be helpful for you – any of you. Or none of you? Here’s hoping you have to do just a little less Googling than I did. LOL!

Now, this is not to say that I am the foremost expert on maternity fashion. I most certainly am not. However, I did learn some things along the way and I had a lot of fun in the meantime.

You can check out ALL of these looks (and more) on my Outfits page here on the blog (and each look on the outfits page links to the original blog post with outfit details, just in case you’re curious).

Maternity Menswear + Car Shopping! Who knew?

This shirt, ladies and gents, is my husband’s shirt. Sure, sure, wearing men’s clothing is not a new concept, but it is for me. In a fit of frustration the other morning when none of my clothes would fit me right, I said “FORGET IT” and decided to try my husband’s shirt on. And whattya know? It fits! It’s (obviously) a little large, but that’s nothing some sleeve-rolling and belting can’t fix!

I felt like a new woman. I texted my husband a picture of it and said, “Are you going to be mad if I wear your shirt today?” And he said, “No, that’s actually a good look on you… but it better not smell like a dang petunia the next time I go to wear it.”

Apparently I smell like a petunia. That, folks, is what we call “WINNING.” Or something.

On another, completely unrelated note: I am in the process of car shopping. As much as my little VW Rabbit has served me well over the years, it sadly will not transport dogs AND a young child easily. SO, we are on the hunt for a used SUV. And I’d LOVE your input / feedback!

Here are the parameters:

  • It’s gotta be an SUV and it’s gotta be USED
  • Our budget is $14,000 and we are paying CASH for this car – no leasing, no financing (basically we are counting on getting around $5,000 for trade-in on my car and the rest would be money we’ve saved plus tax refund, etc.)
  • Me, personally? I want an Auxiliary or USB audio jack in the car so I can play music from my phone and I’d also kinda love a sunroof because I’ve never had a sunroof.
  • Safety! It’s gotta be a safe car, yo.

So, tell me, what SUVs should I be looking at? I’d love your feedback!

Thanks, y’all!

Bloopers + Love

If you’re new around here, WELCOME and I have something to tell you! If you’re not, then you are already well aware of what I’m about to say:

I don’t take myself too seriously. Ever. Well, maybe sometimes. But it’s rare.

I am not a “natural” style blogger. I mean, I’ve always loved fashion and had a passion for creativity, but if you had told me five years ago that I’d one day have a blog where I take pictures of myself and post them, I would have spit out my Diet Coke.

I can put an outfit together, yes. But I am NOT a natural in front of the camera. Never have been. I don’t think I honestly ever will be. It’s awkward for me. Heck, it still is. It’s just plain awkward. I wish I could videotape the process that I go through to take my outfit photos. It’s embarrassing.

Anywho. Because, more often than not, it’s just me, my camera, my trusty tripod, and my shutter remote – hilarity often ensues. And when my awesome friend and seriously amazing style blogger Clare posted her outfit post blooper photos, I knew I had to do the same. Thanks for the idea, Clare!

Sadly, I don’t have all my outfit photo bloopers saved – many saw the “Trash” bin RIGHT away, but I did remember to save a few gems along the way.

So, without further adieu, here are a few of my favorite outfit post photo bloopers – and you can click on the photo to see the original outfit, if you want (because fashion has no shame, right?):

I want to make something very clear. The blue I’m wearing today… cobalt, if you will, is AND will ALWAYS be CNU blue. CNU as in Christopher Newport University (go Captains!) my alma mater.

It is NOT, and will NEVER be Duke dook blue. Sorry Duke fans. I know, I am friends with many a Duke fan, and I love you, I just am not a fan of your school. Agree to disagree?

Tonight is the first game in the “Battle of the Blues” series – UNC Chapel Hill vs. Duke basketball. The biggest rivalry… uh, ever. Go HEELS. Now, we’re probably definitely gonna lose (reverse psychology) but that doesn’t mean I won’t root for them till the bitter end.

All of you who aren’t college basketball fans, forgive me. Instead, here is a video of Chris P. Bacon, a baby piglet who uses a wheelchair. You’re welcome.
