Happy Friday!

I had SUCH a great weekend last weekend. I was so blessed to drive up to Richmond for the night and spend some time with some sorority sisters. PLUS, my friend and AMAAAAAAAZING wedding photographer Katelyn James, spoiled us rotten. And by us, I mean her brides. She held a SPA DAY for us brides at the Red Door Salon & Spa in Richmond. So I got a facial AND I got to see friends? Talk about a win win!

But seriously, I felt so blessed. I mean, Katelyn was my photographer and yet, she spoiled us so sweetly for Christmas. What a gift she is!

And of course, no trip to Richmond is complete without lunch at Plaza Azteca with some Phi Mus. :)

I am loving the new series at church right now – it’s called All In and I just being part of a church family that is completely sold out to Christ, Biblically strong, and totally open, loving, and relevant.

Tater has gotten in the habit now of jumping on the bed and snuggling me in the mornings while husband is at the gym. I can’t help but love it. She’s such a good snuggler.

As I’m writing this, it’s SNOWING. I know, some of you hate snow or think, “Oh my gosh, come on, that’s nothing.” But I LOVE SNOW. Seriously. LOVE IT. It makes me so happy. Such a great way to end the week!

What did YOU do this week? Highs? Lows? Loves?

Casual Friday

[Ombre Lace Tee: Madewell (on sale!) | Jacket: Old Navy | Necklace: c/o Caroline G. | Jeans: 74AM | Watch: Target | Bracelets:Kenya, InPink, and GroopDealz]

My office doesn’t have a dress code, really. So technically, every day is casual Friday for me. But, if I were to work in a more formal-dress office setting and casual Fridays were my only chance to, let loose, if you will, this is what I’d wear.

Honestly, I LOVE dressing up. I LOVE putting together fun outfits. It is honestly one of my favorite things to do is put together a creative look. But this look right here? This is where it’s at. 10+ year-old jeans, a comfy top, a jean jacket, and statement jewelry. Boom.

Anyway, I thought, being that it’s casual Friday and all, I’d answer a few FAQs. Because why not?

  1. Where do you live?I live in Hillsborough, NC. It’s a country little town and I love it.
  2. Who takes your pictures for you? 99.9% of the time, that’s me. With a tripod. And a totally convoluted method of getting myself in focus and snapping the photo. It’s totally not glamorous. In fact, it’s quite hilarious most of the time. Other times my friend Brooke will snap an outfit of me when I’m taking her outfit photos.
  3. When do you take your outfit photos? Since it’s dark in the afternoon now when I get off work, I either try and take them before work or, more often than not (because I am NOT a morning person) I take them on the weekend – but I recreate what I wore during the week. Because I’m OCD like that. So yes, everything you see me wear on this blog is something I wore in real life for a whole day.
  4. What kind of camera do you use? My camera BODY is an old Nikon D40 which I use to shoot in manual. I have an amazing 35mm/1.4 lens on it and that’s what really matters. I’m hoping to upgrade my camera body this year after I’ve saved some money for one. But honestly, it’s all in how you use the camera.
  5. What do you do for a living? Like, what’s your job? I am the “Director of Marketing and Business Development” for a trade publication in the commercial audio/visual (AV) industry.
  6. And yeah, what is that? Basically, I work for a digital media / news organization where we only write and cover news in the audio/visual industry. It’s a lot of cool technology and a lot of geeky stuff – my husband doesn’t really understand what I do. And that’s fine with me. :)
  7. Where did you go to college? I went to Christopher Newport University (Go Captains!) in Newport News, VA – it’s a public, liberal arts school and it was the BEST.
  8. But I thought you loved the Tar Heels? I do. A whole bunch. My husband went to UNC Chapel Hill and after moving here, you basically have to pick a side… UNC or Duke. And I chose UNC. NC State doesn’t count. ;)
  9. Where did you grow up? A town outside of Washington D.C. called Herndon, VA. I’ll be honest, I don’t miss living there – the only thing I do miss is The Tortilla Factory – only the best Mexican restaurant ever.
  10. Do you have any siblings? I have one sister and her name is Bridgid and she is the best. You may hear me mention other “sisters” – well, that’s cause I’m a PHI MU and dang proud of it. :)

Anyway. Those are just a few of the FAQs I get on a regular basis – I’ll be sure to share more soon!

In the meantime, tell me something I don’t know about you! What’s a question YOU get asked all the time?

High Five for Casual Insta-Friday + #NaBloPoMo :)

First, if you’re wondering what in Sam Hill #NaBloPoMo is, well November is National Blog Post Writing Month. More on that at the end of this post…

For now, let’s celebrate the awesome moments of the week:

1. Movie date nights :) Husband and I went to see Argo last weekend. Oh my goodness what an AWESOME (and totally stressful) movie. For real. So good.

2. I hope I’m not beating a dead horse, but I’m going to be real with y’all… I still love my chevron scarf. For real.

3. These dogs. Ridiculous. Love them.

4. Husband brought me “just because” flowers this week. Little did he know, it was exactly what I needed at that moment. Love that guy.

5. I didn’t want to answer the door on Halloween without a costume. So what did I do? I threw on my wedding dress. And my cathedral length veil. And an apron. You know, cause I was making dinner and I didn’t want to get anything on it. My husband thought it was hilarious. I thought it was fun!

And don’t forget, you can always follow me on Instagram to keep up with my antics through the week.

Now, #NaBloPoMo (National Blog Post Writing Month) is just a good way to get refreshed, recharged, restarted, or re-energized in your blog writing. Now, I always have a pretty long list of blog post ideas, stories, etc. written in a little document on my iPhone, but since I’m a writer at heart, I always LOVE looking for new ways to get my creative juices flowing.

There are a bunch of different resources for writing prompts throughout the month of November. I’m going to be teetering back and forth between these and these. So, if you’re looking to get involved in #NaBloPoMo, you can check those out.

With that, today’s question / prompt is:

“If you could live anywhere, where would it be?”

To be honest, this was something I thought about for years and years and years. Pretty much until the time I was 25, I thought I wanted to live in New York City. I was dead set on it. I was going to move to NYC and become the next start of Saturday Night Live.

But as I got older, it wasn’t that I abandoned “the dream,” so to speak, it was just that my priorities shifted, as priorities are want to do as we age.

I’m a country girl at heart. I’m a family girl at heart. I LOVE where I live now and I wouldn’t change ANYTHING about my life right now. I am so blessed. There will always be a special place in my heart for New York City – the sights, the smells, the cultures. But I don’t think it’s really a place I’ll ever actually live. I won’t say never, because I never know where God may lead us, but I can say that it’s highly unlikely New York would ever happen as far as my living situation goes.

Now, as much as I LOVE North Carolina, and as much as I never want to leave, truth is, if God woke me up tomorrow and told me to move to Kenya, I would.

For real.

A huge piece of me is in that village in Kenya, and if we could move there knowing God would provide, we might just consider it.

Now, don’t go fretting thinking we’re moving to Kenya, because we’re certainly not. I’m merely answering the question in front of me.

So, in short, if I could live anywhere, where would it be? Kenya. Without a doubt.

Other than that, as long as I’ve got the Lord and my husband, I’m happy. :)

I’d love to know: If YOU could live anywhere, where would it be? Leave your answer in the comments below or feel free to leave a comment with a link to YOUR #NaBloPoMo blog post!

Happy Friday!

High Five for Casual Insta-Friday!

Have you entered my giveaway from The Pleated Poppy yet? You should! :)

Happy Friday, y’all! I love Fridays for many reasons, but one reason I really love them is because it’s time to recap moments of the week.

For me, it’s not just sharing some Instagram photos I posted this week, it’s a way for me to continue to use this blog as a journal of my life. I love looking back at old Friday posts and seeing what was going on at that time and whatnot.

My virtual life scrapbook, if you will.

Anywho, that’s neither here nor there. Let’s get to it.

1. I had lunch with my friend (who also happens to be an amazing mom AND fellow fashion blogger!) Brooke this week! I seriously love this girl. It was so refreshing to get the time to catch up and talk vision and life goals and outfits.

…we also MAY or may not have both been wearing leather skirts and tights, too. Totally unplanned. Hilarious.

2. This dog? Really? When she does this, she can get away with almost anything. Can’t handle her cuteness.

3. Stopped in to World Market to peruse the racks the other day. WHY? Why do I love everything in that store? This chair? I WANT. I LOVE!

4. Woke up Wednesday with a pretty wicked migraine. So, I rocked some sunglasses, a scarf, and my Kenya Airways blanket to work. It was snazzy.

Also, in keeping it real, this is my migraine remedy: a 32oz. fountain Diet Coke from Cruizers and some powdered donettes. Don’t judge me.

5. The International Space Station flew across the Carolina sky last night! This may not be the world’s most high-res image of it, but I was excited to see it! It moved like a plane, but looked like a shooting star. It was pretty awesome.

What did YOU do this week? Got any awesome weekend plans? Happy Friday, y’all!
