Yeah, I wore this blouse again… AND THE TRIANGLE BLOGGER ANNOUNCEMENT!

[Blouse: Fab'rik Chapel Hill (last seen worn here, here), Jeans: Seven for All Mankind, Shoes: Nine West, Belt: Target, Sunnies: Target, Bag: Longchamp, Necklace: JCrew via eBay]

You guys, this is what I wore to dinner last week when I met up with Mia and Brooke for… well… dinner. I hate when I’m accidentally redundant. Yeah, I know this is like the bazillionth time I’ve worn this blouse in the last month. But I can’t help it. I LOVE IT SO MUCH. It’s mah fave.

Okay, so you know how I told you guys how I met Mia and Brooke for dinner? You know, I told you both on Friday and, well, right now.

Well, I am SO EXCITED to finally announce what we have been commiserating on (Remember, I mentioned something about this last week?)

Mia, Brooke, and I are excited to announce the launch of: The Triangle Fashion, Beauty, & Lifestyle Bloggers (TriFABB) organization PLUS our official LAUNCH PARTY & BLOGGER MEETUP! (Can you tell I’m excited?)

So here’s a little about TriFABB:

The Triangle Fashion, Beauty, and Lifestyle Bloggers (TriFABB) is a group and community where bloggers in the Triangle region of North Carolina can come together to learn, collaborate, meet, and connect with each other – oh, and they all happen to share a passion for fashion, beauty, and/or blogging!

Feeling inspired by the Capital Area Fashion & Beauty Bloggers (CapFABB) out of the Washington D.C. area, Molly Stillman teamed up with Mia Maree and Brooke Allen to form TriFABB in August 2012. They wanted to create a community where local bloggers could grow – whether it be through local meet-ups, networking opportunities, events, or just being able to ask the questions we all wanna know the answers to when it comes to blogging (and life!)

We believe that the members of TriFABB are on the cutting edge of all things, fashion, beauty, and lifestyle.

Wanna get in touch with us? You can email us here! Wanna join TriFABB? Find out how here.

So yeah, we are SO excited. This idea has been swimming around in my head for a LONG time and I wasn’t sure about trying to do it all on my own… and I have really loved getting to know Mia and Brooke over the last few months and so when I mentioned the idea to them, they were both SO excited.

I am just SO pumped about having a group and a place for local fashion, beauty, AND lifestyle bloggers to be able to come together, get advice, seek help, ask questions, and make friends. I just have so many ideas, big plans, ideas for monthly meetups, fashion shows, charity events, and the whole nine-yards!!! The list is quite lengthy…

PLUS, to make things even MORE awesome… we ARE having an OFFICIAL TriFABB Launch Party!!

So, if you are a fashion, beauty, and/or lifestyle blogger living, working, and/or blogging in the Triangle region of North Carolina, we want you to come!

Here are the details:

  • DATE: Thursday, August 16th, 2012
  • TIME: 7-9pm
  • WHERE: Fab’rik Chapel Hill | (you know, where I got the blouse I’m obsessed with…)
  • WHAT: TriFABB Launch Party & Blogger Meetup – Fab’rik is closing their store to the public and giving party attendees 20% off the ENTIRE store PLUS there will be some snacks, drinks and a few treats for attendees.
  • RSVP: Please RSVP to trifabb@gmail.com by Wednesday, August 15th (but really, sooner rather than later as space is somewhat limited :) )

So yeah, I don’t know if I can honestly convey how excited I am to just be able to meet, greet, and make friends with SO many amazing people in this area. And if you don’t live in the Triangle region, don’t worry, we love you, too! AND you’re ALWAYS welcome to come visit! FOR REALS!

2:30AM Thoughts

Yes, it’s 2:30 in the morning and I’m still awake. I took a nap today for the first time in easily six months – and now I’m paying for it because I am WIDE awake. This afternoon I was leaving one job and heading to another and realized that if I didn’t take a nap, I would probably pass out en route.

If it’s 2:30AM and I’m still awake, I do a couple of things:

  1. Watch SNL digital shorts
  2. Watch old TED talks
  3. Clean

I am doing the 2nd of the three. And although I have seen this particular TED talk a gazillion times, I learn to appreciate it more each time I rewatch it.

I love J.J Abrams for two reasons:

  1. He gave me the show LOST
  2. He’s brilliant

AND this particular quote from his talk is my biggest takeaway:

“No community is best served when only the elite have control.”

I think it’s such a simple yet profound statement, thought, idea. There’s all this talk of “community” going on – whether it be in technology, improv, the town you live in, your country, whatever. Yet, do all of us actively participate in our own communities? Whatever community that may be. Are you an active or passive member of your community(ies)? Do you complain when things don’t go your way or do you work to change them?

People are put in charge for a reason, yes. But for the most part, they are put in charge by the people who, well, put them there – i.e. the members of the community they serve. (Does that even make sense? It makes sense to me, but it is now 2:40AM, so it could be Esperanto for all I know).

There’s nothing that irks me more than people who sit back, are so cavalier and laissez faire about everything, and then when things aren’t exactly the way they want them to be, all they do is whine. You don’t like your situation? You don’t like things the way they are going? Change it. Work harder. Engage with passion in your own life.

QUESTION(S): Thoughts? What does Abrams’ statement say to you? What does it make you think of? I want to know.

By the way, I’m hungry.

Word.

#FollowFriday Rockstars

There are a couple people that deserve a big shout-out this week – so I thought this would be a great public platform to shout them out on… shout on them… shout out them… out shout them. You know what I mean.

Community Leaders

  • @CHCYMCA – The Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA is doing everything right. I can’t say enough good things about their organization. They give back so much to the community with the Strong Kids Campaign and are getting kids involved the right way. I am also really excited because I am training for my FIRST half-marathon and the folks at the YMCA have been awesome and are helping to give me some great resources to help with my training. (I am a horrible runner, so this is exciting for me. I need all the help I can get!)
  • @CarolinaChamberFull Disclosure: I am doing freelance social media consulting for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce. Being new to the Triangle, it is hard to feel comfortable getting connected in the community when you don’t know very many people. I got involved with the Chamber about two months ago and since then we have forged a great working partnership. I do not work for the Chamber, but I am working with them on their social media strategy. I attended my Chamber New Member orientation tonight and my first Business After Hours at the Carolina Inn. Wow, that place is amazing! I have to say that the Chamber is really working to support local business, social entrepreneurship, and the local economy.

Inspirational Tweeters

  • @Garyvee – Maybe if you’ve been living under a rock you haven’t heard of Gary Vaynerchuk. I aspire to be as inspiring as Gary. His book CRUSH IT! got my thoughts going and my ideas rolling. He is a rockstar community engager – and he totes responded to my tweet on Twitter. I got excited. PERSONAL GOAL: meet, eat dinner with, and interview Gary Vaynerchuk in 2010. I am going to make this happen.
  • @LisaSullivan – This girl is a rockstar. I am really in awe of how hard she works and how much she is hustling to make things happen. Even after being laid off earlier in the year, she has maintained such a positive attitude and has never given up her sense of gusto. She is always so enthusiastic and incredibly insightful. What a lady!
  • @joshhanagarne – Man, if this guy doesn’t make you grateful, I don’t know who will. Josh writes a blog called the World’s Strongest Librarian. I read an article by him earlier this month, and since then I have been following his blog. He is a librarian living with a severe case of Tourette’s Syndrome and he uses writing as a method of therapy. His writing is fresh, funny, witty, inspiring, insightful, and awesome.

These people are incredible and I recommend them uninhibitedly. They truly exemplify what it means to be valuable.

Tell me, who do YOU think is totally a rockstar right now? Who, in your opinion, is providing awesome content and needs to be shouted outed? You know what I mean. ;)

Social Media TIP OF THE WEEK: Disagree

Disagree. Yes. I said it. Disagree.

Now, this is, of course, coming from yours truly who is, by nature, a people pleaser and I hate disagreeing. What? Molly hates something? Yes, and that’s negativity and disagreement. I come from an uber-supportive family and I’m an improviser. In improv, we are told that disagreement on stage is nothing but wasted time. Our philosophy, “Yes, and…” tells us as improvisers that we support and we agree with our scene partner 100% AND to add new and interesting information. If you and I were on stage and you handed me an imaginary cat and I responded by saying, “NO! That’s a dog!” – then that would be disagreement and the audience would immediately check out and loathe what was happening on stage. So, what does this point have to do with Social Media? And why on earth would I tell you to do something I, myself, am not even good at. Because I can, that’s why.

Now, I don’t want you to go out there and disagree just to be a jerk or piss people off. My point is that I want you to form your OWN opinion and that you don’t ALWAYS have to agree with people. Discussion and dialogue are at the crux of building relationships and, ultimately, a strong community. If we all agreed 100% of the time, life would be pretty one-sided and a whole lotta tunnel vision would be going on.

It’s important to listen to other’s opinions and take in each other’s perspectives. I learned this lesson very early on. My mother was a very liberal democrat and my father was a very conservative republican – they might not have always seen eye-to-eye, but they always appreciated each other’s opinions and took their perspectives into account – this almost made their relationship stronger. But this isn’t a relationship blog. ;)

So here is your challenge: the next time you read a tweet, a Facebook status update, a blog post, or check out an article – find a way to, politely of course, disagree. Challenge an argument. Start a healthy discussion and see what comes out of it. See what you can learn.

Now, don’t be a jerk and don’t fight with people. There is a point where you can go too far. But I believe you can always learn from people who see things differently than you. But, you don’t have to agree with me, of course. ;)
