Home Decor Inspiration - Century Furniture - High Point Furniture Market 2013 - North CarolinaSo, my father-in-law works for Century Furniture and for the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of getting to go spend the day in High Point, NC for Furniture Market. Now, if you don’t know what Furniture Market is, basically Market is when literally THOUSANDS of people descend upon the small town of High Point, NC to check out what all the furniture and home design companies are releasing for that season. It’s almost like Fashion Week, but for home decor and design.

You can check out my recap post from last year here.

Even though I only got to check out the Century Furniture, Highland House, and Capel showrooms, there is still PLENTY of fabulousness to go around.

Sure, 99% of this I could never actually own, but it’s SO fun to get design inspiration and put together a dream home in your mind. Right?

Ahhhh get ready for some home de-gorgeouness, as I like to call it. Or would it be decor-geousness? Either way, you get my point.Home Decor Inspiration - Century Furniture - High Point Furniture Market 2013 - North Carolina Home Decor Inspiration - Century Furniture - High Point Furniture Market 2013 - North Carolina Home Decor Inspiration - Century Furniture - High Point Furniture Market 2013 - North Carolina Home Decor Inspiration - Century Furniture - High Point Furniture Market 2013 - North Carolina Home Decor Inspiration - Century Furniture - High Point Furniture Market 2013 - North Carolina

Nursery Color Inspiration (I need your help!) + 19 Weeks!

As you may very well know, John and I are not finding out the sex of our baby. AH! I know, right? Trust me, I am dying to know, but I know that the surprise in the end will be TOTALLY worth it.

Well, we’re in the process of starting to think about our NURSERY and, well, I really want to prove that gender neutral nursery’s don’t have to be boring! They don’t have to be “conventional” – and so John and I decided on the theme for our nursery and we are so excited.

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know how much Kenya means to us. I’ve been back twice and my husband came with me this year and a huge chunk of my heart is in that community of Kiria. Well, I’ve taken A LOT of photos on my trips back to Kenya, and we thought what better than to do a KENYAN-THEMED nursery?

We’re going to blow up photos I’ve taken and put them on canvases or large prints and hang them around the nursery. And what better way to tell our child about Kenya and the people and our experiences AND the animals than to surround him or her with photos and memorabilia?

Well, although I have photos picked out, we still have not settled on an overall color palette for the room. And so, I’ve gathered a few of my favorite photos that I’ve taken in Kenya and made color palettes out of them for inspiration.

So, I want to know: which one is your favorite?

[Option ONE: The Crowned Crane]

[Option TWO: The Watering Hole] Kenya & Safari Inspired Nursery Color Palette

[Option THREE: Zebras] Kenya & Safari Inspired Nursery Color Palette

[Option FOUR: Tiny Santa]
Side note: this is probably my favorite photo I’ve ever taken. I took it through the window of our bus on the way to the village one day and I just love the story it tells. Kenya & Safari Inspired Nursery Color Palette

So seriously, which one is YOUR favorite? What do you think would look best in the nursery?

Now for my 19 week update!

still being molly - maternity style: purple blouse, maternity jeans, red TOMS, red bow bagHow far along: 19 weeks!
How big is baby: An heirloom tomato or small cantaloupe
Weight gain: At the doctor’s last week it looks like I’m right on track at about 10 pounds.
Sleeping: Sleep? BAH!
Food cravings: This kid loves milk, ice cream, cheese – anything dairy. But my latest craving this week has been blueberry waffles with powdered sugar on top! NOM NOM NOM!
Food aversions: Still no desire to eat Tokyo Express. Sad times.
Symptoms: Pretty much all the same.
Doctor’s appointment: We go for our anatomy scan next Thursday! I had my 18 week checkup last week and the baby’s heartbeat was steady at 140.
Wedding Rings: Still on!
Movement: On and off. Nothing consistent yet, but when I ate [B]Ski’s for lunch this week the baby was moving like CRAZY afterwards. It’s really all hit or miss.
Best moment of the week: My mother-in-law is coming to visit tonight so I’m really looking forward to spending time with her!
What I’m looking forward to: Our anatomy scan next week! YAY!
What I did / Got for baby: My new mom car!
What I learned this week: The baby can yawn, smile, and frown in the womb right now. SO CUTE.
Prayer requests: Still praying for sleep and better rest. I’m just dragging all the time. I also would love continued prayer for the health of the baby – I’m still in that stage where I’m just so careful about everything and I just want this baby to be strong and healthy.

Friday High Five For a BEDROOM MAKEOVER!

You guys, this week I’ve been all sorts of outta whack and frankly, I’m switching things up. Why? Cause I don’t conform. Or something. Or really cause I blog about what I want to blog about when I want to blog about it.

And, well, today’s Friday. And I’ve had a, you could say, a rough week, and today I’m celebrating the fact that it’s FRIDAY.

So, along those lines, I wanted to finally share some photos of our BEDROOM!

So, instead of my usual Friday High Fives post that I usually do, I’m doing a whole bunch of HIGH FIVES FOR (almost) FINISHED BEDROOMS!

I‘m still linking up with Lauren over at From My Grey Desk, because she is pretty dang awesome.

FINALLY our bedroom is at a place where I feel like it’s ALMOST done. Still some little things here or there to really iron out and make nicer, but we are LOVING it. Hubs bought this house almost three years ago, and until February of this year, it was definitely a bachelor pad. And so when I moved in, he was adamant about us making it OUR home and, you know, de-bachelorizing it.

Now, the room that WAS his room is now our guest room and the room that his roommate lived in before we got married is now our room.

But you see, that room had a horrible poo-brown paint color and AWFUL navy blue carpet. YUCK. So, before the wedding, John worked so hard painting the room and replacing the carpet and surprised me the day after our wedding with the results. Then, when we got back from the honeymoon, I got to WORK ON THE DECORATING! YAY!!

Enough of my rambling. Here are some photos of our room! The before photos were taken by hubs on his iPhone – so unfortunately, they don’t give a GREAT picture of what the room looked like before, but hopefully you get the idea.

We live in a little Cape Cod home, so we have slanted ceilings in our room which can make arranging furniture a challenge. Also, it is HOT in the summer upstairs. So we have to have window AC unit to cool it down. Oh wells.

BEDROOM BEFORE. I don’t know if you can tell, but that paint color and that CARPET is horrendous. YIKES.

BEFORE. Ugh. Worst carpet color ever.

BEFORE.  Seriously, the photos don’t do the poo-brown color of that paint justice.

BEFORE: Closet Area

PROGRESS! Grey paint is done (you can’t tell via the picture, but the wall underneath the slanty ceiling is an accent wall, a darker shade of grey than the other walls. And this is also when the carpet was getting pulled up.

BEFORE: the window area. Grey paint. Carpet getting pulled up.
PROGRESS! New carpet!

PROGRESS! NEW CARPET!
AND BOOM! VOILA! Our ROOM! (That’s my dresser… can you tell?)
This is Hubs’ dresser – you know, with an engagement portrait canvas over it!

You know, a little “S” monogram action.
LOVE these. I’ve had these little sconces forever and I knew that RED was going to be the perfect accent color against all the black, white, and grey – and so I snagged these RED candles at the dollar store and I love the way they look!
OUR BED! :) (Can you tell I like quatrefoils? Husband is so kind to let me continue to feed my love for quats)
I avoided getting this quat mirror for MONTHS. And then finally, I caved one day when it was back on the shelves at Target. I want like 10 more. I LOVE THIS MIRROR.

More engagement portraits on the walls of our bedroom. I love them so much they’re ALL OVER our house. :)
My side of the room!

My wedding hanger :)
You know, a monogram M.
My wedding garters
I have had this jewelry box my whole life. I love that picture of me and my mom.
My momma’s dogtags.
You know, a place to hang my necklaces! Got these little hooks for $6 at Target!

Our closet area. I finally hung those fun, swirly IKEA mirrors. ALL BY MYSELF! Husband was so proud. Especially since he had temporarily banned me from using the power drill. Too many WHOOPSIES….

And yeah, those are quatrefoil picture frames with photos from our honeymoon in them. I have a serious quat obsession.
QUAT FRAMES.
For the curious: YES, I make the bed EVERY DAY. I feel anxious if I don’t make the bed. Seriously, it takes TWO seconds. Okay, more like thirty seconds, but seriously. It takes NO time to make the bed, and the room looks SO much more complete when the bed is made!

Yeah, yeah, yeah. That’s a quat on our bedspread. It’s totally fine.
More sconces
Wedding photos canvas above the bed :)
LOVE IT. It makes me so happy!!
ONE MORE BEFORE AND AFTER LOOK

So yeah. What do you think of our bedroom makeover? I’m high-fiving it all over the place. YAY!

What are YOU high-fiving today?

xoxo, all for now.

Yeah, there’s not going to be a 52 in 52 post today. Our “date night” was me making dinner at home this week. Sadly, life got in the way of going to a restaurant, but that’s okay. We will deal and be back to our regularly scheduled program next week.

Home Decor Fabulousness at High Point Furniture Market 2012

You guys, before this past Saturday, I had never been to High Point Furniture Market.

My father-in-law has worked in international sales for Century Furniture for almost 25 years. So, the FIL got hubs and I passes and since High Point is only about an hour or so drive from Chapel Hill, we decided to make a day of it. (I even got to spend time with my sister and the nephew later that day! SCORE!)

Well, even though we only saw the Century and Highland House (Highland House is also owned by Century) showrooms, I was in home decor heaven. Seriously. Oh, and the number of QUATREFOILS was insane. It was like they were taunting me with all their beautiful quatrefoils. SERIOUSLY. AHHH. SO MANY QUATS.

Now, of course 99% of it I could never afford, but hey, a girl can dream.

I also took a TON of pictures. Like, 726 to be exact. I have narrowed them down for you to my FAVORITE rooms. If you are REALLY curious to see other rooms, you can let me know and I’ll post more.

Now, I am not a professional photographer and these were all taken on my cell phone and Nikon point & shoot… so don’t judge.

Also, since I know you’re probably just DYING to know, here’s what I wore on Saturday:

(nothing fancy, I know, but we were doing a TON of walking around so I wanted to make sure I was comfortable)

Here’s my Polyvore inspiration board:

Green, Leopard, Yellow

NOW, on to the Home Decor HEAVEN!!

Look at this GORGEOUS quat chair:
LOVE this quat rug:
Just a quick shot of me being a total creeper in a fancy place. #WhyICan’tHaveNiceThings
Oh, so there was this time that I saw this random framed photo of CAMERON DIAZ at Furniture Market. WHAT?
I think you can gauge how fancy someone is by how large the magnifying glass on their coffee table is.
I honestly want to know what this is.
This photo doesn’t do the colors in this gorgeous room justice.
This teal and yellow room reminded me of Katelyn James haha!
This is the section of rooms designed by artist Bob Timberlake. We got to meet him, too! (he was SO NICE). I love the rustic look of his rooms.
I love this place setting idea for the fall or Thanksgiving. Heck, even Christmas. I don’t know why I’m seduced by old books all the time, but I am.
Again, with the giant magnifying glasses.
I love this one.
So this picture just makes me mad – because hubs and I brought home a real piece of reef EXACTLY LIKE THIS from Mexico from our Honeymoon – and we were gonna use it as decor… until our dog TATER ATE IT. Tater ate the reef. Ugh.
MORE QUAT CHAIRS!
I want a display ladder like this so badly. I bet you I can make one…
Also not sure why but I love this, too.
Then there was this one time I walked into a room and found THIS GIANT QUAT MIRROR. Ahhhhh love.
Room with the giant QUAT mirror.
Love old doors like I love old books.
Some of the “outdoor” or “patio” decor / furniture
I love love love this coffee table. OH MY GOSH. This picture doesn’t do the gorgeousness of it justice.
This, Ladies and Gents, is an OSCAR DE LA RENTA designed room. He has a whole collection for Century. #SWOON
More Oscar de la Renta…
This was probably my favorite room in the WHOLE PLACE. Oh my gosh. It’s OSCAR DE LA RENTA. It has a quat mirror. GORGEOUS walls. GORGEOUS bedding. I love it all.
Love the pop of colors in this room. Also, Oscar.
I don’t think this is Oscar, but still gorgeous. I love the photo layout on the wall.
Found this SWEET chair. Decided to be silly. What else is new?
A bed with a quat headboard. Yes, please.
More quats on the wall. I wasn’t kidding when I said they were everywhere.
Who wants these dining room chairs? ME.
So, these things were in a dish as decor. I WANT TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE THEM. They were so cool!!!
How sweet is that iron bed?
Love these colors.
Phew. Okay. You still with me?
What did you think? Love? Hate? What were your favorites? Least favorites? What’s your dream room?
xoxo, all for now.
