What I Wore: Vegas Outfits (when I wasn’t wearing a work shirt…)

[Outfit Deets: Shirt: Banana Republic Outlet (old), Skirt: Target (Merona, $17 with a coupon!), Wedges: Target, Bag: Longchamp (old), Necklace: Kazuri Beads, Kenya]

You guys, I am home from The Vegas. I’ve been busy spending time with the hubs and trying to get my body back to my normal timezone. Well, I figured Monday would be a good opportunity to share some Outfit Pics of what I wore when I wasn’t wearing my rAVe work shirt and jeans

The first outfit (above) was what I wore to our nice staff dinner at The Capital Grille in Vegas. I had, quite possibly, the most delicious Filet Oscar that I have ever had in my entire life. GAH. So good. I love this skirt. A LOT. Target is (still) running a 20% off a Merona item coupon (and that’s ANY Merona item… sale or not)… and so I scored this awesome striped pencil skirt for about $17. I was pretty excited.

[Outfit Deets: Shirt: JCrew Factory Outlet, Shorts: JCrew Factory Outlet, Blazer: LOFT (old), Bag: Longchamp (old)]

This next outfit (above) was what I wore to one of the receptions and an AV tweetup. I wanted to look casual, but also somewhat professional. It’s Vegas, so obviously it’s hot so I wasn’t gonna wear long pants, but I thought this worked for a nice balance. Or something.

[Outfit Deets: Shirt: LOFT (sale! $9!), White Blazer: Forever 21, Jeans, Seven for All Mankind (old), Sandals: Steve Madden (old), Jewelry: Forever 21, Bag: Longchamp (old)]

So, this (above) is what I wore out on Friday night, our last night in Vegas. Long story short, we were supposed to go to a major nightclub (not exactly my scene), but thankfully, things somewhat worked against a few of us and myself and three of our ROCKSTAR reporters ended up just going to get milkshakes and cheese fries. Now THAT’S my idea of a night in Las Vegas.

It honestly was so much fun just getting to hang out with a few of these guys and drink a seriously delicious chocolate milkshake and eat some seriously unhealthy, but delicious, cheese fries. And then crash. I went to sleep and it was the best sleep EVAR. I was so exhausted. And ready to be home.

Naw mean?

ABOVE: What I wore on the way HOME from Vegas… and a final elevator pic…

…and BELOW: me, the last day of the tradeshow, in a goofy mood… as Darth Vader. Yes. I dressed up as Darth Vader. A girl’s gotta have fun sometimes.

Also, this is my pose if Darth Vader was a sorority girl or fashion blogger. Notice the “skinny arm pose” and crossed legs… HAHA. My golly I am silly.

Also, one of our reporters decided to put together a little impromptu “Call Me, Maybe” video. LOL. I make a cameo. I look crazy. I’m in a white jacket… LOL. Enjoy!

Happy Monday, y’all.

xoxo, all for now.

Las Vegas = Sin City or Social City?

Be jealous: I went to Las Vegas a week and a half ago. DSC_0018

But even when I am on a short (but awesome) vacay, a part of my brain doesn’t leave work/writing mode. Well, I’m not a gambler and I have much more interest in partaking in spa services than any of the other “activities” that “sin city” has to offer. But the one thing that continually impresses me about Las Vegas is their use of social media and the way they use it to engage residents, visitors, and potential travelers.

Everywhere you go in The Vegas, social media follows. Almost every resort, spa, casino, and store has some sort of “get connected” signage encouraging people to… well, get connected. (Example to the right).

Even a mention of Vegas on Twitter and you’re going to be followed and @replied by a few casinos and/or shows that might want to help you out.

When I checked into Planet Hollywood on @FourSquare (a location-based social media application), a nearby special popped up. Just for checking in on FourSquare, I got a free drink from the bar at KOI, an uber-nice Japanese restaurant inside Planet Hollywood. (Screenshot to the left.)

IMG_3169If you have Vegas-related questions about discount show tickets, hotel reservations, restaurants, whatever, there is going to be someone in the social media space to answer it for you.

I had a huge breakfast mishap the first morning I was there. I tweeted to them about it, I was taken care of, and @PHVegas checked in with me on Twitter about it.

It was nice to know that if I had a problem or a question, there was going to be an answer, in real time, no matter where I was.

Vegas does social media right.

I know Vegas isn’t the ONLY city that uses social media to such heights, but it sure is a great example of how it should be done.

Need more examples? Look at some of the MANY Vegas venues on Twitter:

By using these tools, Las Vegas is able to reach out to an international audience. People come from all corners of the world to The Vegas and Vegas needs a way to connect with those people. And they do.

Question(s): What other cities do you think utilize social media tools as effectively as Las Vegas? Have you have a negative experience with Vegas social media? Do you think they could improve? What do you think engages you the most when a city uses social media? I would love to hear your thoughts and/or other examples.

Word.
