So often I feel excited when I introduce you guys to a company or a business or a brand I love. But today it’s a little different.

handsI am, literally, HONORED to introduce you to The Mighty River Project (TMRP). I’ve been following TMRP for a while and I am absolutely in awe of what founders Erin and Scott Littleton have done. Y’all know I have a heart for Africa as I’ve done mission work there. Well, Erin and Scott took their love of Africa, specifically their love of the country of Uganda, and took it a step further.

I wanted y’all to hear about TMRP from Erin herself:

My husband, Scott, and I founded TMRP almost 2 years ago.  We had taken several trips to Uganda, one for an extended period of time to help out at a babies’ home, and also ended up adopting a 3 and a 5 year old from that babies’ home.  After a time of settling into our new family (and having a belly baby!) we felt strongly that God wanted our family back in Uganda, serving the people that we had come to love so dearly.

We knew that we were meant to care for orphans (a la James 1:27), and spent several months praying and seeking counsel about what, practically, we were supposed to do once our plane landed on that gorgeous orange clay soil.  One issue that kept coming to the forefront of our attention was that so many of the Ugandan orphans that we had cared for and fallen in love with lived in care facilities for entirely preventable reasons.  In fact, many of the children that we knew had living parents, who were simply unable to care for them.

So we started TMRP (named for Amos 5:24 — “Let justice roll on like a river”, and also because Uganda is home to the source of the Nile) with the aim of coming alongside vulnerable families, with children on the brink of orphanhood due to illness, poverty, disability, etc, to give them the social, emotional, spiritual, and practical tools to be able to stay in tact.

This is Juliet

Like a river changes the surrounding landscape bit by bit, inch by inch, by simply flowing, we hope to create small, sustainable changes that eventually change the landscape of Uganda. There are two main parts to our program:  What we are doing now, and what we hope to do long-term.

Currently, we employ four artisans: Juliet and Dorothy make baskets, Teo makes magazine bead necklaces, and Rita makes aprons and bags.  We pay them a fair price in the local economy for their products, then find market for them in the US.

TMRP’s partnership with these mothers allows them a consistent monthly income that helps them provide for their families.  The proceeds from these crafts not only support these women and their families, but also allow TMRP to help with emergency needs that arise in the communities where we work as well as with livestock microlending and other initiatives that give families the ability to have that leg up that will keep them together.  We aim to do this in a very sustainable way that in no way creates dependency on handouts.

As a mama to three, I am passionate about TMRP because, for one, I can’t fathom being so alone and in so desperate a situation that I had no other choice but to place my children in an orphanage.  Even if we can help a few families avoid this fate, we will count that as success.  In addition, as we tangibly come alongside these women, we are excited about showing them a God who loves them with abandon.

The most recent woman to become part of The Mighty River Project family is Juliet.  She is a single mom of four kids, and a widow.  Her auntie taught her to make banana fiber baskets when she was a child, and she says that she was given a gift when she learned to make these baskets.  Because Juliet has this skill, she is able to provide for and educate her four children.  We are thrilled to be a part of that, and are excited to pass the gift of basket-making on to other mamas.   –ErinTeo-collage

How inspiring is Erin? I know, right?

Well, want to find out how you can get involved in The Mighty River Project?

  1. Shopping the store is a great one, as proceeds go back to TMRP program; the more product they are able to find market for, the more women they can add to the program, and the more families are strengthened!
  2. Donating monthly or one-time is another great way to get involved.  Donations go towards getting their full-time program up and running in Uganda. Put it this way, if everyone reading this post RIGHT NOW donated just $5 per month, TMRP could be on the ground in Uganda full-time by this fall! Yeah. That’s awesome. I became a monthly donor of TMRP and I am PROUD to be a part of such an amazing organization. I mean, even $5 or $10 a month makes a HUGE difference!
  3. Hosting a home party is another way that North Carolinians and others within a 250 mile radius of Winston Salem can help out!  Hosts of a home party provide a venue for TMRP to set up their store for a few hours (in a home, apartment, church, etc.) and invite all your friends.  They talk a little bit about who they are and what they do, and then the shopping begins! Hosts also get a store credit as a thank you for helping them spread the word.

Well, Erin has been SO SO SO SO generous as to giveaway a choice handmade magazine bead necklace to one lucky still being [molly] reader. Use the Rafflecopter tool below to enter!

Rodan + Fields Skincare Giveaway + #YOLOmondays Link-Up!

I am SO excited to be able to share today’s giveaway with y’all and introduce you to my sweet friend Kristin!

Kristin and I went to college together (we were totally nerdy English majors together! Go Captains!). And even though we live in totally different parts of the country, we’ve kept in touch through social media and whatnot. You know how it goes.

This is Kristin:

Anywho. So I could go on and on about how awesome Kristin is, but I’ll let her speak for herself. Mmmkay? Yay!

Me (Molly): Hi Kristin, I know you, but my readers don’t. Who are you? Tell us a little about yourself.

Kristin: I am a nerdy, neurotic English major who was lucky enough to inherit her Dad’s sense of humor and weird toes, her mom’s gumption, and her Granny’s twitch when she walks. I’m fiercely protective of my family and friends, I love board games, I get anxious when I travel, I love the Pittsburgh Steelers, I refuse to ever follow a recipe the way its written, and I wish I lived next door to my sister…or at the very least in the same state. Mom to two cats, Atticus and Pip, and wife to writer husband Mike.

I am a technical writer and marketing specialist by trade and heard about the incredible business opportunity with Rodan + Fields in August 2012. I immediately realized that I was looking at something that would change my life. I’d been running the hamster wheel of working just to pay bills and feeling like I’d never get ahead, so when I learned about the incredible potential with Rodan + Fields, I jumped in with both feet. I’m thrilled to say that it’s been one of the best decisions of my life.

Me: That’s awesome! I’m so glad you’re doing so well and LOVING what you do! Now, what is RODAN + FIELDS?

Kristin: Rodan + Fields Dermatology is the clinical skincare line created by the doctors who created ProActiv Solution – which is now a $6 BILLION dollar brand!

The brand was first launched in high-end retails stores in 2002, and became the top-selling clinical skincare brand in Nordstrom by 2007! The doctors then transitioned into the network marketing model and sales have quadrupled! Independent consultants can build million-dollar businesses leveraging the incredible programs and technological tools that helped Rodan + Fields win the Direct Selling Association’s Rising Star Award!Me: That sounds awesome, but why? What made a technical writer like you want to do this?

Kristin: Despite thinking that I didn’t have an entrepreneurial bone in my body, starting my own business with Rodan + Fields has opened so many doors for me, both financially and personally. I’ve been able to make an extra income right away, but I’ve also been able to really grow more confident and realize that not only CAN I do this, but I’m good at it and I LOVE it. I love the opportunity to push myself outside of my comfort zone and coach other people who want to earn full-time income in part-time hours!

Me: Yay! That’s awesome, Kristin! Thanks for stopping by the blog. :)

Editor’s Note: Kristin sent me a sample of the mini-facial that included micro-dermabrasion and a lip renewing serum and oh my goodness. I LOVED it. The products left my skin feeling SO clean and not like there was any residue or anything like that. And my husband even complimented on how glowy my skin looked that day. Seriously. I was amazed!

Side note: Kristin is looking for people to join her team. Anyone who is motivated, coachable, and has 10-15 hours a week can succeed in this business. Simply call or email Kristin to talk about the opportunity (contact info is on her website khilleary.myrandf.com)

Kristin also has a great Preferred Customer program that gives 10% off and free shipping!

Anywho. Enough rambling. Time to check out the AMAZING giveaway!

Kristin is offering ONE lucky still being [molly] reader: A free, full-sized regimen of your choice (up to a $193 value). Choose from four regimens including ANTI-AGE, to help turn back the clock on your skin; SOOTHE, for sensitivity; REVERSE, to help reverse the signs of sun-damage and dark marks; and UNBLEMISH, to help treat and prevent acne.

#YOLOmondays Link-Up & The Dogs

You guys, happy Monday. WHO WATCHED THE CLOSING CEREMONIES LAST NIGHT? I’m sorry, but my 90s fan girl was kind of geeking out over the Spice Girls and Oasis. I’d be lying to you if I said I didn’t still LURVE the Spice Girls. GAH. Now I want to watch Spice World again.

Closing ceremonies > opening ceremonies.

Anyway, moving on. Welcome to the EIGHTH #YOLOmondays linkup! WAHOO! Thanks to ALL the amazing bloggers who have linked up over the past eight weeks. I know I’ve discovered some PRETTY amazing people and I hope you have, too.

You know, after blogging 7 days a week, sometimes more than once a day, for the past many months, sometimes you need a blogging day off.

However, because I don’t know how to take a day off, I realized that I’ve never FORMALLY introduced you to our children.

No, we don’t have human babies, yet (and not any time soon). We have furry babies… two to be exact.

So, in today’s post, I would like to formally introduce you to Audrey Hepburn and Tater, our furry babies.

They’re best friends. Through thick and thin. They’re weird and often a nuisance, but we love them. Too much, probably.

Tater Stillman is a Pitbull / Cattle Dog? mix. We know she’s pitty and we think she’s cattle dog. We also are fairly certain there is PIG in there. Like, the kind that oinks, yes.

Audrey Hepburn Buckley Stillman is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. A long name for a small dog. Audrey is submissive and as you will see in many of the photos below, if you get near her, she often ends up on her back.

FUN TATER FACT: When John got her from the pound three years ago, her given name was “Allegra” – not a great name for her. We realized later that it HAD to be because of her SERIOUS sneezing issues. Seriously. Tater sneezes so much. So we think she was named after the allergy medication.

They are the YIN and YANG of dogs.

  • Tater? Hardly barks. Audrey? Constantly barks.
  • Tater? Big and muscular. Audrey? Kind of a pansy.
  • Tater? Ears perked. Audrey? Floppy ears.

Yet, they lurve each other.

FUN AUDREY FACT: I got Audrey from a little farm outside of Richmond. She was the runt of her litter that no one wanted, until I went to the farm one day to look at another dog. Until Audrey came running around the corner and stole my heart.

#YOLOmondays Link-up: BOOTS + a Cowboy Boot Giveaway! – CLOSED

You guys, when the AWESOME people at Boot Barn contacted me a while back and asked if I would be interested in trying out a pair of their Shyanne cowboy boots AND hosting a cowboy boot giveaway… I think I may have squealed a little bit. And, not to mention, they wanted to send my HUSBAND a pair of Cody James boots to review as well.

Needless to say the husband became extremely supportive of my blogging after that. :)

SIDE NOTE: I loved that they included a handwritten thank you note AND some beef jerky. My husband loved the beef jerky.

I. Love. These. Boots. I know you guys know this. I wear them ALL THE TIME. I can honestly, without a doubt, say that these are THE NICEST cowboy boots I have EVER owned.

As fun as they are, I actually have been pleasantly surprised as to how versatile they are. I have had A LOT of fun pairing them with different outfits.

And a note about Boot Barn’s customer service… SO, I’m going to be honest. When I first got the boots in the mail, I LOVED them… and then I put them on. And they were tight. REALLY tight. I mean, I was afraid. I thought they were too small. They hurt my ankles and I was nervous about them. I have larger calves so they were also a little snug around my calves.

WELL, I called their customer service line and the AMAZING rep on the line had me do some things to test whether or not the boots were ACTUALLY too small or if I just needed to break them in.

You see, pretty much all the boots I own previously have either been thrifted (so they’re already broken in) or they’re not as high quality, so they didn’t need to stretch.

The Shyanne boots are full-grain leather and so there’s a lot of stretching and breaking in that has to happen.

The rep had me do some tests (like jumping, walking, pushing my toes to see where they were, etc… I probably looked really silly ) – and I passed all the “tests”. The rep then said, “They’re just tight because they’re new and need to be broken in. Trust me, they fit you.”

And the rep was right. I needed to give them time. I’ve been breaking them in for the last month and I LOVE THEM. They fit AMAZING now and they’re SO comfortable. Seriously. SO SO SO SO comfortable.

I was SO appreciative that the rep went out of her way to help me and make sure they were the right fit. KUDOS… I wish I had written down her name. :(

I’m going to talk more later about tricks to breaking in your boots, but I can honestly say that I love these and I can’t wait to save up for another pair.

Boots: Shyanne Women’s Embroidered Clover Flower Boots c/o Boot Barn

…NOW for my husband’s review of HIS boots!

Molly’s Husband: “Just to be clear, I had never had any problems with my former pairs of cowboy boots. Always liked the way they looked, the way they felt, etc. However, the first time I put on the Cody James boots, immediately, there was a noticeable difference.

“They’re sturdier, they fit better in the ankle, and they don’t have as much give (especially in the ankle). These are boots that I could easily chase down bad guys in. They fit so well that you can move that much better.

They broke in easy – just took a little while to get the soles roughed up so you’re not sliding all over the place.” -Molly’s Husband.

editor’s note: doesn’t husband look so hunky in his boots? i know i’m biased, but for real.

My husband’s Boots: Cody James Men’s Rounded R-Toe Western Boots c/o Boot Barn

I also guest posted on The Weekly Shoe about how to pick a GREAT pair of cowboy boots. Check it out!
