Friday High Five For a BEDROOM MAKEOVER!

You guys, this week I’ve been all sorts of outta whack and frankly, I’m switching things up. Why? Cause I don’t conform. Or something. Or really cause I blog about what I want to blog about when I want to blog about it.

And, well, today’s Friday. And I’ve had a, you could say, a rough week, and today I’m celebrating the fact that it’s FRIDAY.

So, along those lines, I wanted to finally share some photos of our BEDROOM!

So, instead of my usual Friday High Fives post that I usually do, I’m doing a whole bunch of HIGH FIVES FOR (almost) FINISHED BEDROOMS!

I‘m still linking up with Lauren over at From My Grey Desk, because she is pretty dang awesome.

FINALLY our bedroom is at a place where I feel like it’s ALMOST done. Still some little things here or there to really iron out and make nicer, but we are LOVING it. Hubs bought this house almost three years ago, and until February of this year, it was definitely a bachelor pad. And so when I moved in, he was adamant about us making it OUR home and, you know, de-bachelorizing it.

Now, the room that WAS his room is now our guest room and the room that his roommate lived in before we got married is now our room.

But you see, that room had a horrible poo-brown paint color and AWFUL navy blue carpet. YUCK. So, before the wedding, John worked so hard painting the room and replacing the carpet and surprised me the day after our wedding with the results. Then, when we got back from the honeymoon, I got to WORK ON THE DECORATING! YAY!!

Enough of my rambling. Here are some photos of our room! The before photos were taken by hubs on his iPhone – so unfortunately, they don’t give a GREAT picture of what the room looked like before, but hopefully you get the idea.

We live in a little Cape Cod home, so we have slanted ceilings in our room which can make arranging furniture a challenge. Also, it is HOT in the summer upstairs. So we have to have window AC unit to cool it down. Oh wells.

BEDROOM BEFORE. I don’t know if you can tell, but that paint color and that CARPET is horrendous. YIKES.

BEFORE. Ugh. Worst carpet color ever.

BEFORE.  Seriously, the photos don’t do the poo-brown color of that paint justice.

BEFORE: Closet Area

PROGRESS! Grey paint is done (you can’t tell via the picture, but the wall underneath the slanty ceiling is an accent wall, a darker shade of grey than the other walls. And this is also when the carpet was getting pulled up.

BEFORE: the window area. Grey paint. Carpet getting pulled up.
PROGRESS! New carpet!

PROGRESS! NEW CARPET!
AND BOOM! VOILA! Our ROOM! (That’s my dresser… can you tell?)
This is Hubs’ dresser – you know, with an engagement portrait canvas over it!

You know, a little “S” monogram action.
LOVE these. I’ve had these little sconces forever and I knew that RED was going to be the perfect accent color against all the black, white, and grey – and so I snagged these RED candles at the dollar store and I love the way they look!
OUR BED! :) (Can you tell I like quatrefoils? Husband is so kind to let me continue to feed my love for quats)
I avoided getting this quat mirror for MONTHS. And then finally, I caved one day when it was back on the shelves at Target. I want like 10 more. I LOVE THIS MIRROR.

More engagement portraits on the walls of our bedroom. I love them so much they’re ALL OVER our house. :)
My side of the room!

My wedding hanger :)
You know, a monogram M.
My wedding garters
I have had this jewelry box my whole life. I love that picture of me and my mom.
My momma’s dogtags.
You know, a place to hang my necklaces! Got these little hooks for $6 at Target!

Our closet area. I finally hung those fun, swirly IKEA mirrors. ALL BY MYSELF! Husband was so proud. Especially since he had temporarily banned me from using the power drill. Too many WHOOPSIES….

And yeah, those are quatrefoil picture frames with photos from our honeymoon in them. I have a serious quat obsession.
QUAT FRAMES.
For the curious: YES, I make the bed EVERY DAY. I feel anxious if I don’t make the bed. Seriously, it takes TWO seconds. Okay, more like thirty seconds, but seriously. It takes NO time to make the bed, and the room looks SO much more complete when the bed is made!

Yeah, yeah, yeah. That’s a quat on our bedspread. It’s totally fine.
More sconces
Wedding photos canvas above the bed :)
LOVE IT. It makes me so happy!!
ONE MORE BEFORE AND AFTER LOOK

So yeah. What do you think of our bedroom makeover? I’m high-fiving it all over the place. YAY!

What are YOU high-fiving today?

xoxo, all for now.

Yeah, there’s not going to be a 52 in 52 post today. Our “date night” was me making dinner at home this week. Sadly, life got in the way of going to a restaurant, but that’s okay. We will deal and be back to our regularly scheduled program next week.

Friday High Fives!

You guys, how is it Friday again? The weeks have been going by crazy fast.

Couple things to start off - I have been doing some blog re-organizing (I’m a little OCD… haha!) so you may notice some new tabs up there! I have one with all of my outfits, recipes, DIY projects, and I even have started sharing SOME of our wedding photos. :) And I, of course, added icons and links to all my social networks and whatnot to the right. So you can check out what I’m doing around the web over there… if you so desire. :)

Now, you may recognize some of the photos below if you follow me on Instagram… but that’s cool, right?

ON TO FRIDAY HIGH FIVES!

[1. Highlight of the week: DAVE MATTHEWS. I know. I've talked it to death. It's cool. I'll stop soon. But it was also a highlight cause I got to spend time with my dear sister in Christ (and Kenya cohort!) Diana!]

[2. I love drinking water out of Mason Jars before bed. I really should take them downstairs when I'm done.]

[3. Jillian Michaels: the woman I love to hate. I'm giving this a shot. I'm a week in. We'll see how I am in 30 days.]

[4. This photo. hahahahaha this cracks me up. There I am. Creeping in my husband's sunglasses at our church's potluck last weekend.]

[5. 50% off $4.77? YES PLEASE. So I made a run by the Tanger Outlets this evening cause JCrew Factory is having a major sale on their shorts and so I wanted to pick up a pair while I can snag 'em for a good deal. And I strolled on in to the LOFT outlet and they had a whole rack of shirts for $4.77. AND they were doing an extra 50% off clearance items. WHAT?! Bananas. This shirt was like $2.67. It coulda been hideous and I probably STILL woulda bought it. BUT, it's actually really cute. So, I call that a WIN WIN!]

[BONUS: I know some of you know that I post twice on Friday's and my afternoon post is usually a restaurant review for our 52 in 52 project. Well, today's review is a review of a fancy restaurant - so I thought I'd include some "DATE NIGHT WEAR" in it too. SO, I thought sharing a little TEASER of my Date Night outfit could be fun. :) ] Check back this afternoon for the post! :) ]

What are YOU high fiving today? Tell me some highlights of your week!

As usual I’m linking up with Lauren at From My Grey Desk.

xoxo, all for now.

My Attempt at Fashion: Cobalt, Bubble Skirts + Bubble Necklaces!

You guys. Okay. I jumped on the necklace wagon. I got my JCrew via Hong Kong via eBay necklace. Only $7 dollhairs plus $5 shipping. WHATWHAT?!

I’m not gon’ lie. I’m obsessed with it and now I want it in every color.

ALSO, I found an AWESOME blogger, Christine Andrew, who also runs an AWESOME Etsy shop, ILYCouture, and she makes the necklaces, too! You’ve probably seen some of her styles floating around Pinterest

Well, I have had this skirt for, what feels like, forever. And so I LOVED wearing the skirt again (I like to think it’s almost like a bubble skirt… amiright?!), pairing it with my trusty cobalt shirt, and my necklace!

What do you think? Would you wear this? Have you hopped on the “bubble necklace” wagon? Or whatnot.

[tater is forever trying to get up in my grill. love that dog.]

[tater looks a little like she's judging me...]

[without fail. thumbs up.]

[now, if you follow me on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, you may have seen I posted this picture last week and polled whether I should go BELT or NO BELT? now, I know the photos above are sans belt, but i did end up going WITH the belt which I loved. I just didn't have it on in those pics. i hope you'll forgive me.]

Outfit Deets:

  • Skirt: South Moon Under (circa 2005?)
  • Cobalt Shirt: Banana Republic Outlet (circa 2007?)
  • Necklace: JCrew via eBay
  • Sandals: Steve Madden
  • Belt: Target

all that social media talk reminds me – I just learned about this “bloglovin‘” – i mean, i knew what it was, but didn’t set one up… well, i set one up. SO, you can follow me on bloglovin’, if you so desire.

also, i started Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 last night. I was dying. I mean, seriously. I felt like I was about to PASS OUT. I’m not trying to lose a bazillion pounds or suddenly fit into a size 4, that’s just not in the cards for me. I know what my body can look like and I know how I am when I feel healthy – and honestly, that’s all I want. So, we’ll see. I will keep you guys updated on the Jillian Michaels…

anywho. what are you wearing today? (i mean that in the least creepy way possible) – share your stuff in the comments below!

xoxox, all for now.

[FASHION + PORTRAITS] Born to Rock Baby Shower

You guys, this is going to be a long post. I am not sorry though because this post, while long, is FULL of pretty people and pretty things. So, check it out.

This past weekend, some girlfriends of mine from church got together and threw the SICKEST Baby Shower for our dear friend Emily. Emily + Dustin are expecting a baby girl, Austyn Blakeley in July. Emily + Dustin are both worship leaders at our church and so when I was coming up with a theme for the shower,  “Born To Rock” I knew IMMEDIATELY would be PERFECT.

To start, I’m gonna get the boring stuff outta the way – my outfit for the shower!

[i wanted to look cute, but also be comfortable since i knew i'd be running around and setting up. hence why i went for my trusty pink cowboy boots rather than heels. i would have DIED in heels. plus, the pink boots went with the theme.]

[typical.]

[my attempt at being "couture"]

[i am a dork.]

Outfit Deets:

Okay, now the outfit part is over with – let’s get on to the party details. Again, the theme was “BORN TO ROCK” – so, we just went with it.

[so, these were the invitations i designed. i wanted them to look like a "band flyer" - i designed them in photoshop and then had them printed at kinkos! it was super easy and i loved the way they came out. (i blurred out the details obviously haha)]

[my A-MAZING sister made the cake for the shower. she made the cake for my wedding and when i asked her if she would do the cake for the shower, i was PUMPED when she agreed. and it was SO awesome (not to mention SO DELICIOUS). you can check out my sister's stuff on facebook!]

[i lost my pin almost right away]

[my friend ariel put these swag bags together - they had DELISH cakes pops, DIY hair bows, and sweet bracelets in them!]

[in lieu of a guestbook, we had a guitar case for "tips" - guests wrote tips to the new parents about parenting, love, and life! it was a hit!]

[emily has been craving breakfast foods throughout her pregnancy, so we had BREAKFAST foods galore! jackie pitched in and helped to get the coffee and paper plates and my friend dani worked SO hard and made ALL the food.]

[you know, just posin']

[so many wonderful gifts! austyn is so loved already!]

[my friend ashley came up with all the baby shower games - she did such a great job finding really fun games for us to play!]

[time for me to cut the cake!]

[some other fun shots from the party]

[seriously, how cute are they?]

[the beautiful mom to be and ashley!]

[our game planner!]

[yeah. i had a piece of cake with black icing. woops. i am awkward.]

[it takes A LOT for me to post this on my blog. those onesies should be carolina blue, but i'll deal for now cause i love her.]

[swag bags!]

[the gang]

[emily and her mama are so pretty!]

[the party planners and the mom to be!]

[seriously, how pretty and awesome are my friends? these are some of the most wonderful, godly, caring, selfless women i know.]

[the mom to be and me]

[and this is what i love about her! hahaha doesn't take herself too seriously.]

so then, we decided to have an impromptu “maternity portrait session” – note: i am no professional photographer. i just love taking photos (always have) and emily is a pretty dang good model! i’m so glad she’s allowing me to share some of these GORGEOUS photos.

Enjoy:

[beautiful]

[emily (and dustin) play the guitar - so this was only appropriate...]

[i want her eye color!]

[gorgeous]

[emily could seriously be a model]

[my attempt at being artsy]

[how gorgeous are they? such an amazing couple! these two love the Lord and are going to be amazing parents]

[dustin cracks emily up all the time]

[oh my gawsh]

[hahahahaha bellies!]

[beautiful]

[austyn is going to be so loved]

phew. okay. that was a LONG post. i know. but wasn’t it AWESOME? what was your favorite part?

pin your favorite photos! comment below and tell me what you loved the most! oh, and ALL the photos from the day are going to be up on my Facebook page later today!

thanks for sticking with me. i’m so blessed by amazing friends!

xoxo, all for now.

OH, and one more thing, I made a “baby shower” playlist that played in the background of the party and I kept getting questions about what songs were on it – here’s the playlist for those who are curious:

  • “Baby I Want You” – Amos Lee
  • “Baby” – Brandy
  • “Hey Baby” – Bruce Channel
  • “Baby Blue” – Dave Matthews Band

  • “Beating Heart Baby” – Head Automatica
  • “Baby Be Mine” – Michael Jackson
  • “Little Bitty” – Alan Jackson
  • “I Wonder” – The City Harmonic
  • “Born to Run” – Bruce Springsteen
  • “Born for This” – Paramore
  • “Sweet Child O’ Mine” – Guns N Roses

  • “Baby I Need Your Lovin” – The Four Tops
  • “Baby I Love You” – The Ronettes
  • “Baby Love” – The Supremes
  • “Baby” – Justin Bieber
  • “Baby It’s You” – The Beatles
  • “Be My Baby” – The Ronettes
