Fancy Style + Legwear

First, let me say my prayers are in a few places today. With all of those affected by the bombings in Boston – my prayers are with you. Such a senseless tragedy and I pray for peace and healing during this tough time.

And secondly, my prayers are also with the Virginia Tech community. I can’t even believe it’s been six years since the shootings there – I remember it like it was yesterday. I know I was personally affected by that tragedy, along with so many of my friends, and it’s just important to never forget that awful day.

Prayers abound to all.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” -Matthew 5:4

Now, on to today’s post.

I was super excited to get the opportunity to work with Hanes legwear to review some of their newest, super affordable options they have available now.

I used to work in a super professional-dress environment and, honestly, have been wearing Hanes legwear for years. I was excited (and weirdly a little nervous) to try out some of the newest options because, well, I’m pregnant, and so I wasn’t sure how they’d fit or how they’d work. Especially since my body is not really my own right now. :)

Here are the different styles Hanes sent me:

Hanes brand affordable legwear options

They sent six options – three nude color options and three black options. Two pairs of thigh highs and four pairs of control tops. All with different “textures,” if you will. BTW: All of these tights retail for less than $5.97 a piece and can be purchased at pretty much any drugstore, grocery store, or Target-type place.

Well, the timing was perfect because I had a business casual / cocktail attire-type event to attend this past weekend, and so I was eager to try out the different looks!

I opted for the “Seasonless Tights” in jet black for this particular outfit. These particular tights are lighter weight and so they work well in cold or warm weather. It was 76 degrees Saturday afternoon when I was getting ready, so these were the way to go.

Now, I will say that I loved the soft texture of these tights, but they are also “thick” enough that I don’t think I’d get a run in them easily.

However, they were definitely a little tighter and “stiffer” than I’m used to, but after some pretty hilarious and awkward stretches and lunges (my husband was looking at me like I was totally nuts) they were actually REALLY comfortable – and I’m 24 weeks pregnant. maternity style - black sequin shirt, black and white striped skirt, red bow bag, and Hanes tights

I’ve used “high-end” legwear before and these really measured up. I actually look forward to trying out the other styles and looking for fun ways to incorporate them into dressier looks.

Are you a tights / pantyhose / stockings fan? What do you call them, anyway? Tights, pantyhose, or stockings? Or is it just legwear? Have you ever used Hanes before? What’s been your experience?

Hair Care + The Like

still being molly - outfit post photo bloopers

This is how I feel about hair care.

I will be honest, I am NOT great with hair. I mean, I know how to wash and dry it properly. I know about “leave-in” treatments and all that jazz (even though I don’t do them like I know I probably should…). Hair is just not my strong suit.

I mean, remember that time I did a hair curling tutorial? Yeah, I try not to, either.

Anyway, even since I chopped all my hair off and donated it, I thought by doing so I’d be making my hair life a whole lot easier and that it would feel healthier and whatnot.

Well, I’ll be honest, it hasn’t. My hair has just felt blech and dull and more blech and more dull lately. I blowdry it and I flat iron it, but if I try to curl it, it looks awful. And overall, the texture of my hair has just not felt awesome.

I know it sounds like I’m being complainy and I don’t mean to at all – I’m just being real. I don’t love my hair 99% of the time. I LOVE my hair when I leave the salon, but once I get home and I’m on my own when it comes to care and styling, that’s when it all goes downhill.

One thing that I’ve never honestly felt confident in is my styling products of choice – especially with my shampoo and conditioner.

Now, I’ve used the same shampoo forever (I have awkwardly dry scalp) and so I have to use a moisturizing product and I will switch up my conditioners to see what I like. But I’ve never found a combination that I REALLY like.

I find that the products I use either make my hair dry and frizzy or they weigh it down and my hair feels greasy and I’ve just blow dried it. Know what I mean? Does that happen to you? Am I the only one?! I just want my hair to feel like it feels when I leave the salon and pay someone else to wash and dry it without spending $25 on a bottle of shampoo. IS THAT SO HARD TO ASK FOR?! No? Yes? :)

Also, a side note, some women when they’re pregnant have GREAT, shiny, vibrant hair – while others while they’re pregnant end up with dull, dry hair. Yeah, I’m in the later of those groups. *Le sigh*

ANYWHO. Rambling.

I was recently sent samples of the new Vidal Sassoon Pro Series moisture shampoo and conditioner. I honestly have never used or even tried Vidal Sassoon products, but I’ve always heard great things about them.

Well, I’ve been using the samples for the past couple of days, and while I’ll be totally honest with you and say they aren’t “life changing” hair products, I do have to say that I really like the way my hair has felt this week!

The shampoo and conditioner both have a light, but pleasant smell and best of all they DON’T leave residue! Now one day I DID NOT blow dry my hair to see how my hair air-dried with these products and the other day I DID to see how my hair reacted to it being, well, blow-dried with these products.

When I DIDN’T blow-dry my hair, my hair was definitely a little more static-y than normal so I had to use a spray to control fly-aways, but when I blow-dried my hair, it felt soft and not too dried out and again NO residue which made me happy!

It’s hard to tell because I was on my own taking these photos and the wind was blowing like CRAZY, but this is my hair when it’s air dried and just flat ironed a little (it looks a little flat here because, again, the wind was blowing like crazy… forgive me):

And sadly, the close up pictures of my hair did not come out great when I took the blow-dried photos over the weekend. But, this photo from yesterday’s post, is what my hair looked like when I used the products and blow-dried my hair. It’s a little more full and has more volume:

Overall I really liked the Vidal Sassoon moisture shampoo and conditioner and will definitely keep using them for the rest of the month to get a more accurate picture of how my hair interacts with them. However, I can’t honestly say right off the bat that they are the best thing since sliced bread, but I do like them.

Have you ever tried Vidal Sassoon products? What hair products are YOUR must-haves? What would you suggest for a hair-challenged person like me to use?

[GIVEAWAY] 8×10 Canvas Print from Printcopia!

I am so SO SO excited to share today’s giveaway with y’all. The AMAZING and super awesome and helpful people at Printcopia are giving one of my fabulouso (yes, I just called you fabulouso) readers an 8×10 canvas print of his / her choice!

If you were to take one step into the Stillman home, you would be able to tell that one Stillman resident has an obsession with canvas prints. Yeah, I’m talking photos on a canvas. And yeah, that Stillman would be me. I have A LOT of them in our house.

Printcopia let me print my favorite pic of John and I with our pseudo-kids in Kenya on an 8×10 print and I just love it. It’s hanging above my desk as we speak. You may have seen it in the photos from my post last Friday.

Anywho. This is the print I got:

I am so obsessed with it. I’m obsessed with canvas prints in general because they are so classy looking and they really make your photos pop off the wall.

The canvas prints from Printcopia come with a hook already on the back of the canvas – and so it makes them super easy to hang. I actually have this 8×10 hanging just with a thumbtack. So I didn’t even use a nail or screw.

These larger canvas prints are not from Printcopia, they’re older, but I wanted to show the Printcopia one next to them to give you a point of reference for size, etc.

So no, an 8×10 print is not going to be a great “over-the-couch” print or “take-up-a-whole-freaking-wall” print, but it is a GREAT size for smaller applications like above your desk, among a larger gallery, etc.

And, because I am somewhat crazy, I have an ENTIRE PINTEREST board dedicated to “Photo Display Layouts” because I’m always looking for inspiration for how and where to hang photos.

Anywho, I have to say honestly, that for the price, Printcopia is a GREAT option for affordable, but well made canvas prints. You can even order prints directly from Facebook and Instagram. Printcopia also runs a lot of great specials and coupons ALL the time – so you can be guaranteed to get a greal deal, too. (They’ve got a BOGO deal going on right now – Buy One Canvas Get One FREE before the 25th!!)

And seriously, need a Christmas gift idea for anyone, really? A canvas print is pretty much a win. For real. Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa – THEY LOVE PICTURES. Especially ones of you. On a canvas. I’m just saying.

So yeah, enter the giveaway and get yo’self a canvas!

WOOP!

Happy Tuesday!
