While not every aspect of pregnancy has been fun, there hasn’t been ONE second that I have taken this whole experience for granted. Every bout of nausea, every weird craving, and every sleepless night is worth it, because I know the precious gift the Lord has blessed us with that is growing bigger and stronger every day.

And now as this baby moves more and more, I just smile and laugh as I watch the miracle happen before my eyes.

But, enough of the mushy gushy stuff. One of the things that has come along with this pregnancy that I was not aware of before, is the “stuff” I get to hear. All the time.

And, to be honest, here are a few things that I have heard a little too much, and I’d be okay if I didn’t hear them anymore (or at least a little less than I hear them now):

  • “You just wait…”
  • “Oh, you’ll see…”
  • “It only gets better.”
  • “It only gets worse.”
  • “Should you be eating that?”
  • “You should eat this.”
  • “That’s not how it was for me when I was pregnant.”
  • “That’s not how my sister / mother / friend / daughter felt when she was pregnant.”
  • “Well, she’s pregnant and she can do it, so shouldn’t you be able to?”
  • “Did your doctor say that was okay?”
  • “Wow, you’re huge for how far along you are!”
  • “Have you finished the nursery?” (We haven’t started on it yet… wooops.)
  • And of course, the unsolicited labor horror stories

Please, please, please don’t get me wrong – I know that most, if not ALL, of these statements have well-meaning intentions behind them and that people genuinely care and want to help. And I totally appreciate it and I’m SO grateful to be surrounded by so many people who are so caring and thoughtful. Just hearing these statements so frequently can just sometimes make an already sleepy and anxious pregnant lady a little weary. ‘Naw mean?

Anyone else know what I’m talking about? What do YOU hear a little more often than you’d like?

My quick “discussion,” if you will, about this outfit is – I love white on white. I love lace and white. I don’t love that my closet is shrinking by the day. BUT, I will say that I LOVE that this baby is growing (rapidly, I might add) and that I’m so blessed to take care of it during this time. It’s also forcing me to be A LOT more creative with my closet. Practice makes perfect, y’all.

Now, I haven’t done a random facts in a while, and well, there’s no time like the present, amiright?!

Five Random Facts About Me:

  1. I am a HUGE Cleveland sports fan. Cleveland Browns are my number one, Cleveland Indians come in close second, and Cleveland Cavaliers in third. BUT, I have never lived in Cleveland in my life. My dad and his family are from Cleveland, so I was basically brainwashed from the time I was a baby to be a Cleveland fan. I guess my dad wanted me to know what pain and suffering was my whole life. :) Just kidding!
  2. I learned to drive (on a stick shift!) at age 10. Since my mom was sick when I was younger, it was primarily for safety in case anything were to ever happen and I would need to drive my mom to the hospital. But also, my dad wanted me to make sure I could drive anything. I have also driven a trailer and a 28′ motor home.
  3. I LOVE the beach but I am terrified of the ocean. Whenever I go to the beach, I basically stick my toes in, but I go no further than that. I had a traumatic experience getting sucked under by a wave when I was a kid that made me scarred for life. PLUS, I am terrified of jellyfish / sharks / anything that could eat me alive. I don’t mind water that is clear where I can see what is around me, but if I can’t see what’s around me, FORGET IT.
  4. If you know me, you already know this, but if you’re new here or don’t really know me, you wouldn’t know that I used to be a comedian. I mean, I kind of still am, but like, I used to perform ALL the time. I primarily did sketch and improvisational comedy – but I did dabble in standup for a while. I performed and wrote comedy for over 12+ years. Yep, I started young. I only stopped doing it regularly a little over a year ago and it was honestly because I was so tired and kinda burnt out. So now I just perform occasionally for fun. I do still miss it sometimes!
  5. I’m related to Pocahontas. Yeah, THE Pocahontas. She’s technically my maternal 14th great-grandmother. How do I know this? Well, my great aunt on my mom’s side used to be a genealogist, did a family history, and discovered that when Pocahontas left America and went to Europe with John Rolfe, she traveled around and, uhh, “made friends” with some men. One of whom happened to be the mayor of a city in Ireland (where my family is from) and boom, a child was born. And 14 generations later, I came along. Crazy, right? Yeah, so random.

Now, what’s something RANDOM about you?

I was so pumped when Marion at Marionberry Style announced this month’s “Trend of the Month” challenge as STRIPES!

Stripes: big, bold stripes are one of 2013′s biggest trends. Now, I’ll be honest, as someone who is very pear shaped and has very large hips – stripes have not always been my biggest, uhhhh, asset. Or I have not always been the biggest fan of stripes. Or something.

You know what I mean.

But anyway, as I’ve gone through trial and error, figuring out what works for my body type and what doesn’t, I’ve come to REALLY like stripes.

I know that, for example, with a skirt like this one, it’s better for me NOT to tuck my shirt in. The more attention I draw to my waist, the more self-conscious I am about my shape. You know? BUT, by wearing a plain tee, layered with a collared shirt OVER a skirt like this, it gives the illusion of elongating my torso – THUS, slimming my hips. PLUS, by adding a structured jacket, that still gives me the girly figure I want.

Did all of that make sense? It makes sense in my head. But I want to make sure it makes sense to you.

Anyway. If you’re like me and you’ve got those hips, try this trick! See what you think. Don’t be afraid of stripes.

Stripes are interesting and fun and can TOTALLY make an outfit go from blah to wow! :)

‘Naw mean?!

Veronica Corningstone

[Dot Blazer: Madewell | Sheer Blouse: Fab'rik Chapel Hill | Jeans: 74AM | Shoes: Target | White Bib Teardrop Necklace: c/o Caroline G. | Watch: Target | Bracelets: Stella & Dot & InPink]

I’m still getting used to my short hair and I’m playing around with different ways to style it. I tried curling it the other day and as it settled, it started looking more and more like a 70s news anchor. But I hear the 70s are coming back? Isn’t Kate Middleton being very 70s lately? And I love her, so maybe this is good news.

Anyway, I mean, I didn’t hate it, it just felt very Veronica Corningstone. You know, from Anchorman? Also, the blazer didn’t help the feeling. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE this outfit, but with my 70s hair, I felt very, 70s.

You know what I mean.

Also, can I talk about this necklace for a second? I’m obsessed. It goes with EVERYTHING! Oh man. I love having a fun piece of jewelry in my arsenal that goes with everything.

Anywho. I’m off to put up more Christmas lights and get ready for the triFABB holiday party! I am SO PUMPED!

Happy Saturday, y’all!
