Pet Peeved. Or something.

[Floral top: LOFT outlet | Jacket: Old Navy | Shorts: JCrew Outlet | Boots: Urban Outfitters]

Humans are weird. Like, straight up. If you think you’re not weird too, you’re sorely mistaken. We are all bizarro. There are times when I think I may be more bizarro than others, but I’m probably giving myself too much credit. Or something.

Anywho. Some of the weirdest things about each of us are our pet peeves. And most of us all have different pet peeves and they range from the straightforward and simple to the totally “WHAT in the?!”

Pet peeves are one of those things that I love to picture God up in heaven cracking up at each of dealing with the pet peeves he gave us. I am convinced God has a sense of humor. I mean, have you SEEN the platypus? That thing is hilarious.

All rambling aside, I have weird pet peeves, too.

A few of my pet peeves may or may not include:

  • ANY drop of rogue water on my windshield. DRIVES ME CRAZY. I run out of windshield washer fluid SO quickly and it it’s raining, I CANNOT let any drop of rain remain on my windshield un-wiped for longer than a second.
  • I keep my desktop on my computer incredibly organized. If there is even ONE document not in a folder, I immediately have to create a new folder for that single document. I probably have 10 folders with one document each in them, but I don’t care. Rogue documents = the worst.
  • When the person who used the bathroom before you uses up all the TP and A) either leaves the roll there empty and then you have to go awkwardly searching for TP or B) they DO get out a new roll but they just set it up on top of the old empty roll. Like, COME ON. You’re SITTING DOWN. Just take the 2.4 seconds to replace the roll. I mean, really?!
  • My foods cannot touch. Nope. Main dish and sides are separate. Now, this does not apply to condiments, sauces, or toppings. I’m talking main dish and side dishes. They do not and will not ever mix on Molly’s plate. ESPECIALLY sweets and savories – e.g. fruits and veggies. I am horrible at buffet places because I have to have like nine separate plates. Hosts hate me.
  • The sound that balloons make when they’re being blown up / rubbed together. I know, this is a weird one, but I SWEAR that those balloons are going to pop and they’re going to pop in my face. It’s terrifying. Unless I am directly in control of the balloon-blowing-up process, I stay as far away from them as possible.

I know some of those are totally random, but hey, everyone has them. Right? I hope it’s not just me.

Also, I’m aware my pet peeves have nothing to do with today’s outfit photos, but it’s #NaBloPoMo, and it’s my blog. So yeah. I’ll write what I want. Or something.

Now, tell me: What’s a totally random pet peeve you have?

Halloween-Inspired Fashion (you know, sans clowns or ghosts)

First, I have to say that I, along with so many, am sending up floods of prayers for all the victims of Hurricane Sandy. The devastation along the east coast, especially up in the north, is beyond anything I can even comprehend. There are many ways to help with the relief efforts, but if you’re looking for a few ways to help right now, you can go here and here. And if any of you have been affected, please, let me know how I can help.

Now, as awkward of a segue as this can possibly be, onto today’s outfit.

Look, I know this outfit doesn’t have any ghosts or facepaint or pumpkins, but it still felt very “Halloween.” And honestly, I probably wouldn’t wear this outfit, or this color combination, at any other time of year.

Orange and black, by nature, is a tough color combination to pull off when it’s not Halloween. So, when I was standing in front of my closet wondering what to wear, I saw this skirt, which I normally pair with navy or brown, and decided to take the plunge and pair it with black.

I also decided to jazz it up a little bit and throw in a print by pairing this look with my new FAVORITE chevron infinity scarf that the amazing Stephanie from Ooh Baby! Designs sent me.

I have, quite literally, worn this scarf every single day since I got it. It’s SO soft, comfortable, and not TOO heavy. Plus, I’ve gotten SO MANY compliments on it. I foresee this scarf being worn a lot this winter.

READ: I. LOVE. THIS. SCARF. A lot. Like, a lot. For real. No lie.

And, since today’s trend of the month challenge over at Marionberry Style was boots, I knew just which pair to toss in for this look. I thought about wearing my black cowboy boots, but I wanted the focus of the outfit to be the scarf and the skirt.

And let’s be real, cowboy boots always steal the show.

Because they rock.

But NOW, my scarf steals the show. :)

Win!

How would YOU wear a Halloween inspired outfit? Would you pair orange and black?

Are We Trackin’?

[Coat: JCrew (old, similar here) | Skirt: Anthropologie (old, love this one) | Boots: Urban Outfitters (old, similar) | V-Neck: Target | Bag: The Pink Azalea | Sunnies: Target | Necklace: Kenya]

I’m sorry. I can’t resist a train track pun.

Great, now that we’ve got that out of the way. Let’s get on to today. North Carolina weather is what I like to call “a flip-flopper” climate. As in yesterday it was COLD, RAINY, and WINDY – and then later this week it’s supposed to get back up into the 70s or 80s. WHAT?! I mean, I ultimately don’thatethe cold, but I severely dislike flip-floppy weather.

Okay, enough small talk about the weather.

Truth is, I’ve had this skirt for a LONG time. Like, for years and years (well, 90% of my closet I’ve had for years and years). It’s one of those pieces that I just couldn’t get rid of. And I periodically remind myself why. Yesterday was one of those days.

I’m going to take a cue from my girl Annie over at The Other Side of Gray and write a little letter to my skirt:

Dear Skirt,

I like you. I haven’t really ever seen another skirt like you before. You’re a pretty color, you have a unique print, and you turnel*. I’m sorry you spend many a day in my closet. Untouched. Unloved. But I promise, I really do love you. By hook or by crook, I will find more ways to wear you this winter. ‘Cause I feel like, although you’re a bit “vintage”, you’re actually very “now.”

Only thing that irks me about you? You’re dry clean only.

I promise not to hold that against you.

Or at least I’ll try. Are we trackin’?

Good.

Love, Molly

*Turnel is a word I made up when I was two to describe the “flowy-ness” of a skirt. Also, flowy-ness isn’t a real word, either.

Enough rambling.

My Attempt at Fashion: Dresses + [Pink] Cowboy Boots

You guys. Thank you for the words of affirmation yesterday. You know my love language all too well. Seriously, I appreciate you when you let me jokingly be self-deprecating. I know self-deprecation is not attractive, but I, you know, do comedy. And make the funnies. So, it’s all a bit.

Anywho.

I also ramble a lot. In case you haven’t noticed. It’s kinda mah thang.

I love cowboy boots. I always have, but it wasn’t cool or socially acceptable to wear them where I lived in Virginia. So when I moved to North Carolina, it was finally okay for me to bust out the boots!

I also love dresses. I love dresses because you look like you’re trying, when in reality you’re more comfortable than you would be if you were wearing jeans. Or a suit. UGH. Suits.

Then I love the combo of a good dress and cowboy boots. I mean, heck, we all wore boots in our wedding.

So, since I’m working on reviving the fashion sense a bit and the temps are getting warmer, I’ve been busting out the dresses + boots.

Whattya think?

Outfit #1

The Outfit Deets:

  • Dress: JCrew Factory (really old)
  • Cardigan: JCrew Factory (really old)
  • Belt: JCRew Factory (yeah, really old)
  • Scarf: Pashmina
  • Pink Boots: eBay!! I got them for $17 for my wedding! :) You can get them here for $59, though!
  • Jewelry: Rustic Gem (bought for my wedding)

Also, I’ve been playing around on Polyvore (some… I started an account last Summer and wasn’t sure what to do with it… haha) and, although these are OBVIOUSLY not the same items (except for the boots) – it’s just a little inspiration for you. I’m quickly learning that you don’t have to have the EXACT same items to make an outfit work. It’s all about working with what you have! And as you can see by how many “really old” items I have, I’m working with what I got. :)

Glamorous Cowgirl

Oh, and in case you didn’t believe me… here’s are some shots of the boots in action in our wedding:
What do you guys think? Fail? Win? Do you love the dresses + cowboy boots look? Tell me a story. I’m serious.
